ThischallengeisnotuniquetoChina.Epidemics,suchasEbola,MiddleEastRespiratorySyndrome,BovineSpongiformEncephalopathyorMadCowDisease,AvianInfluenza,andSARS,alloriginatefromwildlife.

Tocombattheoutbreak,ChinaannouncedasuspensiononwildlifetradeacrossthecountryinJanuaryandacrackdownonillegalactivitiesinvolvingwildlife.Thecountry’stoplegislaturealsoinitiatedaprocessforamendingthecurrentWildlifeProtectionLawandannouncingadecisionthisweektobanthetradeofwildlifeasfoodandtightenthecrackdownonillegalwildlifetrade.

Whilethisisallverygoodnews,itshouldbenotedthatthebanisnotpermanentandwillautomaticallyexpire(失效)whentheamendmentstotheWildlifeProtectionLawbecomeeffective.Further,keydetailsregardingbanenforcementhaveyettobeclarifiedtoensureitservesitspurpose.
