Threeandahalfyearsand70countrieslater,I’vegottentheequivalentofaPh.DingeneralknowledgeaboutthepeopleandplacesofPlanetEarth.

HerearesomeofthethingsI’velearned:

1)Peoplearegenerallygood.

Manypeopleareafraidoftheworldbeyondtheirdoor,yetthevastmajorityofhumansarenotthieves,murderersorrapists.Theyarepeoplejustlikeyouandmewhoaretryingtogetby,tohelptheirfamiliesandgoaboutlivingtheirlives.Thereisnorace,religionornationalitythatisexemptfromthisrule.Howtheygoaboutlivingtheirlivesmightbedifferent,buttheirgeneralgoalsarethesame.

2)Themedialies.

3)Theworldisboring.

Ifthereisn’tanaturaldisasteroranarmedconflict,mostplaceswillneverevenbementionedinthenews.Whenisthelasttimeyou’veheardLaosorOmanmentionedinanewsstory?
