TheythenheadedsouthtoBrisbanebutthecitywasexperiencingmassiveflooding,sotheycrossedthecountrytoPerthwheretheynarrowlyescapedragingbushfires.ThecouplethenflewtoChristchurch,NewZealand,arrivingjustafteramassivemagnitude6.3earthquakedestroyedthecityonFebruary22.

Mrs.Svanstromsaid,“Whenwegottherethewholetownwasawarzone.”

“Wecouldnotvisitthecitysinceitwascompletelyblockedoff,soinsteadwetravelledaroundbeforegoingtoJapan.”

ButdaysaftertheSvanstromsarrived,TokyowasrockedbyJapan’slargestearthquakesincerecordsbegan.“Thetremblingwashorribleandwesawrooftilesflyoffthebuildings,”Mr.Svanstromsaid.“Itwaslikethebuildingswereswayingbackandforth.”ThefamilyreturnedtoStockholmonMarch29afteramuchcalmervisittotheirlastdestinationChina.
