Asthelevelsofmobilephoneuseincreased,therewasagrowthinpoorsleepbehavioramongthestudents.Meanwhile,mentalhealthproblemsalsoincreased.StudentsinYear8whoweremorelikelytousephonesatnightwerefoundtohavehigherlevelsofdepression（抑郁）andlowerself-esteem（自尊心）oneyearlater.

LynetteVernon,leadauthorofthestudy,explainedthatphonesaffectoursleeppatternsbecauseoftheunnaturalbluelighttheyproduce.Thislightcouldaffectthelevelofhormones（荷尔蒙）inthebody,disrupting（打乱）itsbalance.
