I'mteachingthisclassbecauseiwishaclasslikethishadbeentaughtwhenIwassittinginyourseatasanundergradhere.Icameherein1992,andstartedatcomputerscience.AndthenIhadaminiepiphanyhaltwaythroughmysophomoreyear.IrealizedthatIwasinawonderfulplacewithwonderfulstudentsaroundme,wonderfulteachers.Iwasdoingwellacedemically.Iwasdoingwellinathletics.Iwasdoingwellsocially.Everythinggoingwell.ExceptforthefactthatIwasunhappy.AndIdidn'tunderstandwhy.ItwastheninamatterofmomentsthatIdecidedtofindoutwhyandbecamehappier.AndthatwaswhenIswitchedmyconcentrationfromcomputersciencetophilosophyandpsychology.WithsinglequestionhowcanIbecamehappier.OvertimeIdidbecamehappier,whatcontrbutedmosttomyhappinesswaswhenIencountedanewemergingfieldthattimedidn'thaveanamethatithastoday.Butessentiallyresearchthatfallsuderorwiththefieldofpositivepsychology.Positivepsychologystudyingit,applyingtheideastomylifehasmademesignificantlyhappier,Itcontinuestomakemehappier,AndIrealizedtheimpactthatithadonmethatIdecidedtoshareitwithothers.

Sothisispositivepsycology,andwewillbeexploringthisnew,relativelyandfascinatingfield.Andhopefully,wewillbeexploringmorethanthefieldourselves.
