Goodmorning,

首先我代表南洋学院外语系的全体教师对2012届新同学的到来，表示热烈的欢迎！

欢迎你们来到南洋理工学院外语系学习，欢迎你们成为外语系明天的骄傲！

Firstly,onbehalfofallstaffmembersofFLD（ForeignLanguageDepartment）inNanYangPolytechnic,I’dliketoextendmysincereandwarmwelcometoallofyou---mydearnewstudentsin2012.YouarewelcometostudyhereinNanYangandweareproudofyouforthetomorrowofourdepartment!

外语系为我院最早设立的系部之一。

经过几年时间的发展，已拥有商务英语、应用英语两个专业，下设商务英语、涉外文秘、翻译三个方向。

目前在校学生近300人，学生的第二外语为日语、韩语或法语。

在师资方面，外语系形成了以专业带头人为龙头，中青年骨干教师、双师素质型教师为中坚的教学梯队。

其中双师素质型教师占专任教师的比例高达80％以上。

我系还聘请了一批具有丰富企业工作经验的技术人员为顶岗实习指导教师。

另有资深教授，约半数教师拥有或在职攻读硕士学位。

外语系拥有先进的教学设备：

有多功能语音室3间，外贸实训室3个，包括外贸单证实训室、国际贸易综合模拟实训室一和国际贸易综合模拟实训室二。

语言实验室配有最新的集教学、考试于一体的多媒体教学软件，用于学生英语的听力、口语、翻译和写作等方面的训练；多功能国际贸易综合模拟实训室用于模拟商务谈判、外贸实务培训、各种英语竞赛和专业资格考证培训等。

AsoneoftheearliestestablisheddepartmentinNanYangPolytechnic,FLDhasendowedtwomainsubjectsincludingBusinessEnglishandAppliedEnglishwhicharefurtherdividedintoBusinessEnglish,SecretarialEnglishandTranslationmajorsafterseveralyearsofdevelopment.Nowhavingupto300studentsstudyinghere,ourdepartmenthasalsodevelopedsecondlanguagesincludingJapanese,KoreanandFrench.Wehaveforgedastrongteachingteamgroupedbyprofessionalleaders,middle-agedteachersanddoublequalityteachers,ofwhich80%aredoublequalityteacher.Besides,wehaveemployedexperiencedtechniciansasourpracticesupervisors.Someofourteachersareprofessorsandalmosthalfofthemhasgotmasterdegreesorareachievingfurthereducation.Asforteachingdevices,wehaveadvancedteachingequipment:

threemultifunctionalvoiceroomsandthreeforeigntradetrainingroomincludingforeigntradedocumentsandtrainingroom,internationaltradeofcomprehensivesimulationtrainingroomoneandinternationaltradecomprehensivesimulationtrainingroomtwo.Thelanguagelaboratoryisequippedwiththelatestsetofmultimediateachingsoftwareusedforteachingandexaminationwhichareefficientforthetrainingoflistening,speaking,languagetranslatingandwriting;whilemultifunctionalcomprehensiveinternationaltradesimulatedtrainingroomareusedforthesimulationofbusinessnegotiations,tradetraining,allkindsofEnglishcontestsandprofessionalqualificationexaminationtraining.

其次，我要祝贺你们选择了正确的专业：

第一，英语是金饭碗；是最具有前途的专业。

当今学习英语的重要性在全世界，尤其是中国的重要性日益显现：

中国正成为世界经济强国，需要大量人才。

随着我国世贸组织的加入，我国的商业发展势必更加迅速，商品市场更加繁荣，经济的向外型特征更加明显。

中国市场的巨大容量和潜在的无限商机吸引了大批国外商家来中国设立机构，举办各种研讨会，展销会，新产品发布会和投资推介，招商引资甚至海外留学推介等商务性活动。

国内外商家之间频繁的商务性活动和向外型经济的发展势必导致对商务人才的极大需求。

同时，涉外文秘专业也是目前最热门的新兴专业之一，人才需求量大。

世界旅游组织预测：

到2010年，国际旅游者可达11亿人次，将提供2-5.5亿个涉外文秘就业机会。

随着我国加入WTO和经济全球化、一体化进程加快，中外企业大量涌现，迫切需要此类既掌握一定的对外经济贸易和商务理论知识，又具有一定英语水平的应用型、复合型和外向型专门人才。

就目前的形势来看，涉外文秘人才一直是社会需求量较大的社会职业，在各类招聘排行榜上，文秘人员始终处于前列，文秘专业的学生就业前景十分可观。

同时，随着我国对外交流的增多，境内外旅游的发展空间将更为广阔，无论是涉外商务活动还是来华观光、考察、旅游者都呈显著的上升趋势。

到2020年，中国接待海外旅游者将超过1.3亿人次，占世界国际旅游人数的6.8%，将成为世界第一大旅游目的地和第四大客源市场，迫切需要大量涉外文秘专业人才。

据统计，2008年涉外文秘专业人才需求量达130万人左右；2010年我国需要大约200万涉外文秘专业人才。

First,Englishisagolden-bowlandmostpromisingmajor.TheimportanceoflearningEnglishinChinaandtheworldespeciallyinChinaisincreasinglyapparent.Havingbecomeaworldeconomicpower,Chinaneedsalargenumberoftalents.WithChina'sWTOaccession,China'scommercialdevelopmentisboundtobemorerapidandcommoditymarketbemoreprosperous,andthetheappearancefeatureofeconomybemoreapparent.Thus,China'shugemarketcapacityandpotentialopportunitieshasbeenattractingalargenumberofforeignbusinessmentocometoChinatoestablishorganizations,organizevariousseminars,expositions,exhibitionsofnewproducts,promotion,investment,capitalattractionandevenoverseaspromotionandotherbusinessactivities.Thedomesticandforeignmerchantsbetweenfrequentbusinessactivitiesandoutwardeconomicdevelopmentwillinevitablyleadtogreatdemandofbusinesstalents.Atthesametime,Secretaryofforeignaffairsiscurrentlyoneoftheemergingmostpopularmajorswithgreatdemandoftalents.TheWTO（TheWorldTourismOrganization）forecast:

to2010,internationaltouristscanamountto1100000000person-timeanditwillprovide2-5.5billionforeignsecretarialjobs.WithChina'saccessiontotheWTOandeconomicglobalization,accelerationofunificationprocess,enterprisesofChinaandforeigncountriesinlargenumbers,thesocietyhasurgentneedofspecialtalentswhonotonlymastercertainforeigneconomictradeandcommercetheoryknowledge,butalsohaveacertainEnglishlevelofapplicationtype,compositetypeandextroversion.Astothepresentsituation,foreignsecretarytalenthasbeenanoccupationwithgreatdemandinsociety,andinvariousrecruitingrankingssecretarialstaffhasalwaysbeenattheforefront.Therefore,thecareerprospectofsecretarialstudentsisconsiderable.Meanwhile,alongwiththeincreaseofforeignexchangeinourcountry,foreigntourismdevelopmentspacewillbemorevast,thetrendoftheforeignbusinessactivitiesandChinatotour,visits,touristsisobviousupward.By2020,thenumberofChinareceivingoverseastouristswillexceed130000000,whichoccupy6.8%ofinternationaltourists,thusitwillbecometheworld'slargesttourismdestinationandthefourthlargesttouristsourcemarketwithurgentneedforalargenumberofforeignsecretarialprofessionals.Accordingtostatistics,in2008thedemandofsecretaryofforeignaffairsamountstoabout1300000people;in2010Chinaneedsabout2000000foreignsecretarialprofessionals.

第二，同时英语也是最辛苦的专业，需要花费艰苦努力。

俗话说“冰冻三尺非一日之寒”，如果说冰冻就是英语，那么你就需要经历长久的寒冬腊月。

我要说，对于英语学习，坚持很重要，因为英语是一门需要长期积累的科目。

有些同学说英语很难，我认为英语并不难，难在不是每个人都有恒心，“三天打渔两天晒网”，迷恋电脑游戏都是不行的。

你要端正心态，不要急躁，一步一个脚印，这样才能静下心来学习。

要成为英语高手就必须比别人走更多的路，做更多的事。

你应该明白一个事实，英语是单词和语法的综合，所以单词和语法都要拿下。

我建议你，平时读报，或者做题的时候，发现有好的句子好的词汇，你要抄下来，长期下来，你的作文会有提高的，需要说明的是，这个提高过程可能很缓慢，但是最后能收到很好的效果。

在这里我想王国维的“三境界”说可以总结你所要经历的，昨夜西风凋碧树。

独上高楼，望尽天涯路。

”此第一境也。

“衣带渐宽终不悔，为伊消得人憔悴”此第二境也。

“众里寻他千XX，蓦然回首，那人却在，灯火阑珊处。

”此第三境也。

也就是说开始你会觉得一切都很难，但只要经历磨练，一定能成功。

Second,Englishisthemostlaboriousspecialtyandtakeshardwork.Asthesayinggoes,"Romewasn'tbuiltinaday",inChinese,iftheiceisEnglish,youneedtoexperiencetheseverewinterlong.Iwanttosay,asforEnglishlearning,perseveranceisveryimportant,becauseEnglishisalong-termaccumulationsubject.SomestudentssayEnglishisdifficult,IthinkEnglishisnotdifficult,itisdifficultinthatnobodyhastheperseverance.Thepeoplewholike"threedaysoffishingnetsdryingfortwodays",andareobsessedwithcomputergamesaredoomedtobefail.Youshouldhavecorrectattitudeandbepatient,worksteadily,soastosettledowntoyourstudy.TobecomeanEnglishmaster,youneedtowalkmuchmorelongerthanothersanddomoreextrawork.Youshouldunderstandatruth,thatis,Englishwordsandgrammarisintegrated,sothewordsandgrammarshouldbetackledtogether.Isuggestthatwhenyoureadpapersordoexercises,youneedtorecordsentencesandwords.Gradually,yourwritingandspeakingskillswillsurelybeimproved.Althoughtheimprovingprocessmaybeveryslow,intheendyoucanreceiveverygoodresults.HereIwanttoWang's"threestate"canbesummedupasforyourexperience,“lastnightthewestwindwitheredtrees.Imountthetowerhigh.”Thefirstboundaryalso."Widebeltshedoesnotregrettheend,disappearsforIraq."thissecondexitalso.Hundredsandthousandsoftimes,forherIsearchedinchaos,suddenly,Iturnedbychance,towherethelightswerewaning,andthereshestood.Thethirdboundaryalso.Thatistosayyouwillfindeverythingisdifficult,butaslongastheirexperience,youwillsucceed.

大声朗读，听说英文让你了解他国文化知识。

你也可以通过英语认识更多的人，交更多的朋友，和那些与你有共同爱好的人建立深厚的友谊，使你以后的人生更加丰富多彩。

当然，最重要的是，通过学习英语，磨练了人的精神和意志力，使你更加勇敢和坚强。

总之，只要你认真努力的去经历和体会，你就会真正了解这些好处，并享受英语的学习过程。

LearningEnglishisnotonlyeasyforyoutoobtainsatisfyingjobs,buttherearemanyotherbenefits.LearningEnglishishelpfultophysicalandmentalhealth.PeoplelearningEnglishneedstogetupearly,sleeplatewhichalsofacilitatesyoutoloseweight.Readaloud,listeningandspeakingEnglishletyouunderstandotherculturesandknowledge.YoucanalsouseEnglishtomeetmorepeople,makingmorefriends,andthosewhohavethecommonpeopletoestablishadeepfriendship,makeyourlifemorerichandcolorful.Ofcourse,themostimportantis,throughthestudyofEnglish,trainingtheperson'sspiritandwillpower,tomakeyoumorebraveandstrong.Inshort,aslongasyouarecarefultoexperienceandexperience,youwillreallyunderstandthesebenefits,andenjoytheprocessofEnglishlearning.

最后。

开学伊始，我想给大家提几点希望和建议：

第一，树立自信心。

实践证明，一个没有自信的人是不可能成功的。

只有建立自信，克服自卑感，脚踏实地，不断追求，就一定能够较好的完成学业。

自信是人生潜能最有力的控制者，是个性最鲜明的执行者，是创造性思维中最重要的因素。

第二，珍惜时间。

时间是宝贵的，希望大家有抢、挤的意识，坚持课堂学习、养成自学习惯。

一个人不能老是原谅自己，不要懒在宿舍里，两年过后，有的同学考上了研，有的同学在原单位成了骨干，有的找到了理想的工作，而有的只有一纸文凭，到那时后悔晚矣。

年少不努力，老大徒伤悲，就在于此。

学习也是一件快乐的事，在学习中解除了自己的迷惑，增长见识，获取更多的信息，让视野更开阔，让思路更敏捷，让心灵更充实，更重要的：

只有不断学习、努力才能有所收获。
