TheinternshipprogramIamfollowingfocusesonbigpredators（食肉动物）.Ihavedecidedtofocusoncheetahs（猎豹）formyindividualproject,collectingdataonthetwocheetahsthatliveinRietspruit,oneofthereservesthatAfricanImpactdoesresearchin.Withbothcheetahshavingonlybeenreintroducedintotheareathisyear,thereisstillalotofdatathatcanbecollectedonthepair.Largepredatorreintroductionisacommonstrategyusedtoreturntheseanimalstotheirhistoricrange.Theproblemisthatthesuccessratesofthesereintroductionsareverylow,mainlybecauseoflackinresearchdoneonhowdifferentfactorsinfluencethereintroduction.
BothcheetahsarewearingaGPS-collarfromwhichIcandownloadalotofinformationincludingwherethecheetahhasbeen,whattheweatherwaslikeandhowfarthecheetahtravelled.Havingorganizedandcategorizedtheinformation,Ihavebeenabletocreatesomeveryinterestinggraphs.
