SometimesIhavethoughtitwouldbeanexcellentrule（habit）toliveeachdayasifweshoulddie

tomorrow.Suchanattitudewouldemphasize（stress强调）sharply（鲜明地）thevaluesoflife.Weshouldliveeachdaywithagentleness,avigor,andakeenness（热心;渴望）ofappreciation（欣赏;评定）whichareoften

lostwhentimestretches（延伸）beforeusintheconstant（连续的）panorama（综观）ofmoredaysand

monthsandyearstocome.Therearethose,ofcourse,whowouldadopttheEpicureanmottoof“Eat,drink,

andbemerry,“butmostpeoplewouldbechastened（punished惩戒）bythecertaintyofimpending（about

Instoriesthedoomedheroisusuallysavedatthelastminutebysomestrokeoffortune（luck一桩幸事）,

butalmostalwayshissenseofvaluesischanged.hebecomesmoreappreciative（有欣赏力的）ofthemeaning
