WhowasTintoretto?
TintorettowasanItalianartistwhoworkedduringthe16thcentury.HeisconsideredtobeamongthegreatRenaissanceartistsofItaly,andexamplesofhisworkshanginseveralmajormuseums.SinceTintorettoalsoworkedonfrescoes(壁画),itisalsopossibletovisithisartworksinvariouschurches.Hehadadifferentenergeticstylewhichthepublicdidn'tquiteacceptatthattime.
TintorettowasbornJacopoComin,buthequicklygottheItaliannickname“Tintoretto”asachildbecausehisfatherwasadyer(染工).Evenasayoungchild,hebegantoshowgreatartisticskill.HelearnedfromTitianbriefly,anotherwellknownartistoftheperiod.However,Tintorettoexpressedamindofhisown,andTitianfiredhimbecauseofhisindependence,althoughTitianrecognizedhispotentialasanartist.
Intheearlystagesofhiscareer,Tintorettocloselystudiedtheworksofotherpainters,andhealsomasteredtheartofmodeling.ManyofTintoretto'sworksarevastinscale,withlargenumbersofpeople,andmodelingnodoubthelpedhimwiththis.
ConsideringthatTintorettohadnoformaltraining,thequalityofhisworksisincredible.Heproduceda
hugebodyofworksincludingnumerouslargescalepieces.HispaintingParadiseintheyear1588isbelievedtobethelargestpaintingoncanvasintheworld,measuring72feet(22meters)by22feet(7meters).
Inadditiontobeingaverytalentedartist,Tintorettowasalsofondofotherartsformusic.Hewasalsosaidtohavebeenverygeneroustothepoor.TintorettospentmostofhislifeinhisVenicestudio,whichwasusuallyclosedtoguestsandfriends.
Tintoretto'svastbodyofworkswereamajorcontributiontoRenaissanceartandculture.Hisstylealsobrokesharplyfromtraditionalart,usinglight,color,andactioninnewandoftenstunning(令人震惊的)ways.ItisclearthatotherartistswereinspiredbytheworksofTintoretto.
