1.2Background

Thisguideisacompilationofreporteddefects,theirresolutionsandminorupgradestothe1997editionofITU-TRecommendationQ.752.ItincludesallapprovedcorrigendaandisintendedtobeanadditionalauthoritativesourceofinformationforimplementorstobereadinconjunctionwiththeRecommendationitself.

1.3Scopeoftheguide

Thisguiderecordstheresolutionsofdefectsinthefollowingcategories:

•editorialerrors;

•technicalerrors,suchasomissions,inconsistencies,etc.;and

•ambiguities.

Inaddition,thisguiderecordsminorenhancementstotheRecommendationinthefollowingcategories:

•increasedinteroperability;and

•deploymentpossibilityinnewenvironments.

5.2.2Anexampleofcollectionofmeasurements

Amodeltodescribethecollectionofitems13.7and13.9,usedtoexplainpossiblemeasurementtechniquesbutwhichisnotintendedtospecifyimplementation,isasfollows:

Supposeasystemcollectsmeasurementsinanumbersof"measurementcentres".Ameasurementcentrecanbedefinedasapointinthesystemthatlaunches,orobservesdirectlythelaunchingofaTCtransaction,anditalsoeitherfinishesthetransaction,orobservesdirectlyitspassing.Thispointisassumedalsotobeabletocountthenumberoffree,frozenandthawingtransactionidentitieswithwhichitisconcerned.Thusinamultiprocessorsystem,theremightbeone（ormore）measurementcentre（s）perprocessorperApplicationEntitydefinition,whichisresponsibleforlaunchingallthetransactions（instances）ofthatApplicationEntity.Inorderformeasurementscollectedbyallthecentrestorefertothesameinterval,itisassumedthateachcentrehasaclockwhich"ticks"ataratesufficientlyhightobeabletomeasurewiththerequiredprecision.Theclocksarealsoassumedtobesynchronizedtowithinoneclocktick（iftheywerenot,furthercalculationswouldbeneededtodeterminetheoverallprecision）.Ifnecessary,eachcentrewouldhavean"active"setofmeasurements,andanothersettakeninthepreviousmeasurementinterval,whichmightbeawaitingcollection.

Measurement13.7isthemeannumberofopentransactions,estimatedoverameasurementinterval,observationsaretakenateachnewtransactionduringtheinterval.

ThemeasurementscanbeoverthewholeApplicationEntity,orateachcentre,andthenaccumulatedforthewholeApplicationEntity.

DefineacumulativetotalAcofopentransactions（thisissetto0atthestartofeachmeasurementinterval）,anddefineaasthenumberofopentransactionsatanytime.aissetto0atsysteminitialization,itisincrementedateachtransactionarrival,anddecrementedwheneachtransactionleaves.Definenasthenumberofnewtransactionsarrivingduringthemeasurementinterval（whichissetto0atthestartofeachinterval）.
