TheLanternFestivalisJanuary15onthelunarcalendar.ThelunarJanuaryisthefirstmonthofayearand15thisthefirstdayoffullmoon.Therefore,LanternFestivalisanimportantFestivalrightafterSpringFestival.

DuringLanternFestival,peoplegoalongthestreettowatchlanternsandchildrenlighttheirownsmalllanternsforsomefun.Thebiggestandmostbeautifullanternisthedragonlantern,whichlookslikeaflyingdragon,heldbyseveralyoungguys.Onewithaballinhandleadsthedragontomove.

Somelanternshavepuzzlesonthem,calledlanternpuzzle,theonewhogetstheanswercouldreceivesmallpresentsandbehappyforhisintelligence.

Thispoem“TheDayofQingMing”iswrittenbyapoetcalledDuMuinTangDynasty.QingMingFestivalisthedaytoworshiphismotherwithfamily,butthewritergoesaloneintherainydaysasapassengerfarfromhishometown,hefeltdeeplyupsetandsorrowed.Hehastofindataverntohaveadrink,perhapsinthiswayhewillreleasehimselffromsadness.

3.TheDragonBoatFestival

TheDragonBoatFestivalisinMay5thonthelunarcalendar.ThebeginningofthisfestivalisinmemoryofQuYuan,awiseministerandpoetinChudynasty,whojumpedintoMiLuoRiverinlunarMay5thfordespairofcountry,unfairtreatanddefamation.PeoplethrewricedumplingstoRivertoprotecthisbodyfromeatingbyfishandshowedtheirrespectforQuYuan’snoblespirit.

InrecentChina,peoplealsoeatricedumplingsinDragonBoatFestival.Fromthename,wecandirectlyknowthecampaignofthisfestivalisDragonBoating.AteamofstrongmenontheDragonBoatwilltrytheirbesttowin1standshowChinesestrongestspirits.

Peopleusemoxatocleanthemselvesandusefive-colorthreadcrossingsmallchildren’sarmsandfingerstokeepillnessfaraway.

5.Mid-AutumnDay

Mid-autumnDayisAugust15thonlunarcalendar.Accordingtohistoryrecords,ChineseemperorhastraditionthatworshiptheSuninspringandworshiptheMooninautumn.Asaugust15thisexactlythemiddleofautumn,soitiscalledMid-AutumnDay

TherearealotofstoriesaboutthemoonsinceancientChina.

OnemostfamousstoryisChang’eflyingtothemoon.Thousandsofyearsago,therewere9sunsinthesky,manypeoplefelttoohottolive.AyoungmancalledYiwasbraveenoughandshot8sunstothegroundandsavedpeople.OnedayYigotapotionofelixirfromQueenMotherandgavehiswifeChang’etokeep.AmannamedPengMengknewabouttheelixirandwantedtogetitfromChang’e.OnedaywhenYiwasoutforhunting,PengMengwenttorobtheelixir.Inordertoprotecttheelixir,Chang’eswallowedalloftheelixirthenfliedtothemoon.

InmemoryofChang’e,sheisrecognizedasthegoddessofthemoon.

ThetraditionalfoodofMid-AutumnDayisMooncake,aroundbakedcakewithfillingsinit.Theroundshapeofmooncakerepresentsfamilyreunion.InthenightofMid-AutumnDay,everyfamilyhasmooncakeandwatchesthemoon.

6.TheDoubleNinthFestival

TheDoubleNinthFestivalisanimportanttraditionalChinesefestivalinSeptember9thonlunarcalendar.Itistheninthdayoftheninthlunarmonth,ancientChinesebelievesninerepresentssun,thebrightestthing,September9thhastwonine,thesunisdoubled,socallitDoubleNinthFestival.NinealsomeansLonginChinesewords,sotheDoubleNinthFestivalisalsorecognizedTheOldFestival.

InDoubleNinthFestival,peoplegototheirancestors’tombstoworshipwithcoatforwinner.
