AsIwassittinginthecarwithmytwobigsuitcases,IcametotherealizationthatIwasactuallygoingtoleavemyparentstoflytoAmerica.Onthewaytotheairport,Iwastalkingwithmymomallthetime.Ifelttimewentfastthatjustclosedmyeyesforasecond.WhenIopenedthem,theairportwasinfrontofme.

TherewerestillmorethanthreehoursleftbeforeIwastoleaveforAmericasoaftercheckingin,myparentsdecidedtotakemetodinner.WepickedarestaurantthatlookedlikeatraditionalChineserestaurant.Mymomanddadorderedallmyfavoritefoods.Afterthefoodwasonthetable,theyonlyateforafewminutes,beforetheystartedpilingdifferentmeatsandvegetablesinmybowl.Iateslowlyandtalkedwiththemaboutwhattoexpectaboutmynewschool.

“Thissausagetastesjustlikewhatyoumakeathome,butIwillnotbeabletoeatthisforatleastoneyear.”Itoldmymomdisappointedly.

Mymomlookedverydisappointedafterhearingmywordsandkeptputtingsausagesinmybowl.

Tearswentdownmycheekandintomymouth.Iwantedtojumpoutoftheairplane,runbacktomyparents,givethemabighugandtellthemthatIwouldstayinChinaandnotgotoAmerica.Atthismoment,theannouncersaidthattheairplanewouldtakeoffinlessthanfiveminutes.

IhadneverdreamedthatonedayIwouldleavemyparentsandwenttoaplaceIhadneverbeento.Iwasworriedaboutmymombecauseshewasnotingoodhealth.Mydadwasagovernmentofficerandhealwaysdrankalotbecausehehadalotofsocialengagements.Icannotstopcrying.
