　　Whentheselinesfirstcaughtmyeyes,Iwasshocked-howcouldtwopeoplesremainsoisolatedandignorantofeachotherinthepastToday'ssociety,ofcourse,isanentirelydifferentpicture.Thosepeoplewhousedtoeatwithcowhorn-handledknivesmightbeveryskillfulinusingchopsticks,andthosepeoplewhousedtogobbletheirricemightbeaswellhavetakentofishandchips.

　　Indeed,justtakeChinaasanexample:

OurmodernlifehasbeeninfluencedbyWesternstyleoflivinginsomanywaysthatit'snolongersurprisingtoseeteenagersgoingcrazyaboutrock-and-roll,wholefamiliesdiningoutatMcDonald'sandevenratherelderlypeopledressedinAppleJeans.

　　However,theseareonlysomeexpressionsoftheculturalchangestakingplaceinoursocietytoday.Whatisreallygoingonisasubtlebutsignificantrestructuringofthenation'smentality.Justlookaround.

　　Howmanycollegegraduatesarereadytocompeteaggressivelyforeveryjobopportunity,whereasnotlongagotheywereaskedjusttositidleandwaitforwhateverwastobeassignedtothembythegovernment

　　HowmanyyoungpeoplearenoweagertoseekforanindependentlifewhereasonlytwodecadesagotheywouldrelytotallyontheirparentstoarrangefortheirfutureAskanyonewhoparticipatesintoday'sspeechcontest.Whohasnotcomewithawilltofightandwhohasnotcomedeterminedtoachieveself-fulfillmentinwinningthegameAndI'mquitecertainthatifConfuciushadlivedtoseetoday'sChina,hewouldhavebeenhorrifiedtoseeyoungloverskissingeachotherinpublicplacesinanueservedexpressionoftheirpassion.
