ThoughPhelpsmanagedtocompletethedistanceinanimpressive38.1seconds,9.41secondsfasterthanhispersonalbestof47.51seconds,hewasnomatchforthegreatshark,whichclocked36.Iseconds.Likeatruechampion,thefishcelebratedthevictorybyleapingoutofthewater.Phelps,meanwhile,tookthelossingoodhumor,saying:
