Abstract

WritinginEnglishisoneofthemostimportantcontentsandrequirementsofmiddleEnglishteaching.ThepresentstudypresentsadetailedreportofaprojectimplementedtosolvetheproblemthatmostofmystudentsdonotlikedoingthewritingpracticeIassignthemtodoafterclass.Itishypothesizedthatlearners’interestinwritingpracticeafterclasswillbegreatlyincreasedbyabetterorganizationandteachingmethods.Thishypothesisisverifiedbyafour-weekpracticeofclassroomteachingwiththespeciallydesignedwritingexerciseactivities.

Thenhowcanwemakeourstudentswritecorrectly,We’dbettertryourbesttoimproveourstudentwritinglevelbymakingsentences,discussion,writinginterestingstories,makingdiaries,andweshouldusesometechniques,publishingthestudentcompositionstodealwiththeerrorsinstudentcompositions.Inaword,it’sveryimportantandnecessaryforusteachersofEnglishtoimproveourstudentswritinglevel.

1.Introduction

Asamiddleschoolteacher,it’sverynecessarytogiveguidanceonthestudents’writingandit’squiteimportantforthestudentstopracticewritingmore.StudentshavetofacemanydifferentsituationsinwhichtheyshouldwriteinEnglish.

Ihavebeenteachingthestudentswhoareinthetheirthirdyearofamiddleschool.InmyteachingIhavefoundtherearesomeproblems.NowI‘llfinishmystudyinHamiTVUniversity.IhopeIcansolvetheproblemsthathavetroubledmeforsometimethroughtheactionresearchsothatIcanapplymyknowledgeandtheoryintopractice,whichIlearnedfromHamiTVUniversity.

ThispartofmystudywasconductedduringMay5,2013-May15,2013.

2.1Problem

TheproblemIhaveinmyteachingisthatmostofthestudentsdonotlikedoingthewritingpracticeIassignedthemtodoafterclass.

Inmyteaching,theproblemidentifiedwasactuallyaseriousproblem.Ithinktherearethreemainreasonsthataccountedforstudents’reluctancetodothewritingassignmentsafterclass.

Firstly,somestudentsdonotfeelinterestedinpracticingwritingworkafterclass,Theydidn‘twanttodoit.

Secondly,Theirvocabularyistoolimited.Therearetoomanygrammarerrorsintheircomposition.

Thirdly,Manystudents'Englishwritinglevelcannotbeimproved,duetotheirlackofconfidence.

TheProblemhadbeentroublingmeforalongtimeandnowIwasdeterminedtofindasolutiontotheproblem.Inmystudy,Iusedformethodsofanalysis.

Thoughcarefulanalysis,Iwasledtoalotofquestions:

Nowadays,Englishwritingbecomesmoreandmoreimportantinthemiddleschool."Interestisthebestteacher"Americanwell-knownscientistEinsteinsaid.Asweallknow,everystudentiscuriousaboutwhattheywilllearnandwanttolearnwellatthebeginning.Butsomestudentswillshownointerestandevengiveuplearningafteratime.SoinEnglishwritingteaching,whatteachersshoulddofirstishowtheycanmakestudentsinterestedinEnglishwritingallthetime.Withthesereasonsinmind,Ihavecorrespondinglyprovidedsomepossiblesolutionswhichareasfollows.

2.2.1Teachersshouldtrytheirbesttoarousestudentsinterestandhelpthembuildupself-confidence..Forexample,Towriteane-mailtoyoure-pal.

3.1Makeupgroups

 Throughtheinvestigations,Ifoundthereweretwomainproblemsforthemtodowritingpracticebythemselves.OnewasthefamilymembersofmoststudentsdidnotknoworhardlyknewEnglish.Theotherwasthattheycouldnotexchangetheirideaswithothers.Throughanalysis,IthoughtthatIshouldcreatechancesforthemtocommunicatewitheachotherinEnglish.SoIdecidedtogroupthemsothattheywillhelpandlearnfromeachother.

Inmyclassthereare45students,soIdividedtheminto9groups.WhenIdidthework,Ifollowedthreeprinciples.

3.1.1Membersofeachgrouplivedinthesamearea.Theycouldexchangetheirideasanywhereandanytime.  

3.1.2EachgroupwascomposedofthestudentsofdifferentEnglishlevelssothatgoodstudentscouldhelpthosewhohadleggedbehind.

3.1.3Eachgroupwasmadeupofthestudentswhocomefromdifferentfamiliesandhaddifferentlifeexperiencesothattheymighthavedifferentideaswhichmightbeusefulduringtheirwritingpractice.  

3.2Providematerials  

Inordertohelpthestudentsdothetaskbetter,Iprovidedthemwithalotofmaterials.Moreover,Ialsoespeciallyselectedthosematerialsthatwereclosetoreallifeandcouldinterestthestudents.Withsuchhelp,theycouldbemoreconfidentthanbefore.  

3.3Askthemtoperform

Icreatedchancesforthestudentstoreadgoodcomposition.Mostofthemarewillingtoshowtheirabilitiesbeforeothers.Andmostofthemhopetobepraisedandencouragedbytheteacherandotherstudents.Theylookedveryexcitedandanxioustoread.Morestudentswereveryhappyandearnesttopracticeafterclass.

Aswesay“Practicemakesperfect.”Ifwewanttoimprovethestudents’ability,wehavetorequirethemtopracticewritingstepbystep.Inordertorealizetheaim,Itakethefollowingsteps:

3.4Checktheirwritework

Idecidedtochecktheirwritingworkbecausemanystudentswouldusuallydobetterunderthesupervisionoftheirteachersorparents.Assignatopic,andaskthestudentstowriteonit,atthesametimetheteacherhadbetterwriteonit.Afterthestudentscompletethewriting,theteachercanchooseagoodwritingofthestudentstoreadtotheclass,orreadtheteacher’sownwritingtotheclass.Isometimesreadthesampletotheclass.Afterhavingreading,pointoutthemeritsandguidethemfindtheirweakpoints.Thisnotonlycanhelpthestudentstomaketheirwritingbetterintime,butalsohelpthepoorstudentstoknowhowtowritethekindofarticle.

3.5Reducetheirpressure 

Iadoptedtwoeffectivemeasurestoreducetheirpressure.  

Onewastogivethemlesswrittenhomeworkandhelpedthemtrytodowritepracticeinclass.Theotherwastogivethemlongertimesothattheywouldhaveenoughtimetocollectinformationforthetopicandfinishthetask.

4.WritingPracticeDesign

Myhypothesisisthatlearners’interestinwritingpracticeafterclassisIncreasedbybetterorganizedactivities.Moreover,mynewassignmentactivitiesshouldhavearealinformationvaluesothatstudentshavearealpurposetocommunicate.Ihavedesignedfouractivitiestobetriedoutinfourweeks.Andtheseactivitiesarereportedasfollows.
