OnApril8th,2013,theworldfeltsorrybecauseofthedeathofformerBritishPrimeMinister,MargaretThatcher,whodiedattheageof87.Besidesbeingthecountry’slongestleader（1979-1990）inthe20thcentury,shewasthefirstwomantoleadBritain.Sheworkedhardanddidwellinherwork,soshewascalled“IronLady”.
WhateveryouthinkofMargaretThatcher,thethingeveryonedoesagreeonisthatshewasawomanwithgreatdecisions.WhenshetookoverBritainin1979,sheledacountrythatwasineconomictrouble.Shefacedalotofproblemsbecauseofthepooreconomicposition.
Inordertomakethecountrybecomestrongagain,Ms.ThatcherhadtomakesomehardandspecialdecisionslikeraisinginterestratesandeventaxesatatimewhenmostBritishpeoplewerelivingahardlife.InthiswaysheledBritaintorunoutofeconomictroubles.
Earlyinhersecondterm,justasthingswerelookingalittlebetter,shefacedanotherproblem—astrikebytheBritishMinersUnion.Onceagain,theIronLadystoodhergroundtostopthelongeststrikeinthecountry’shistory.
In1982,ArgentinasaidthattheyhadownedtheFalklandIslandssincethe19thcentury.Britain,however,consideredtheislandstobeoneoftheiroverseasdependentterritories（领土）.MargaretThatchertriedtotalkabouttheproblemwithArgentines.ButArgentinesdidn’tagreewithherideas,soMs.Thatcherdidwhatanystrongleaderwoulddo—sendintheBritishArmy.Ittook74days,andon14thJune1982,theArgentinearmyfinallyfailedandBritaincontrolledtheFalklandIslandsagain.
