Overview

Module11,Unit1isaboutjobsandcareers.Eachcomponentoftheunitiscloselyrelatedanddevelopedcoherentlyandsuccessively.

Asweknow,asourceofconfusioninourclassroomisrelatedtotheselectionandsequencingoftaskswithinalessonorunitofwork.Itisthereforeimportanttosequencetaskssothatpriortasksprovidea“platform”foronestocome,sothatsucceedingtasks“depend”onthosethathavecomebefore.Wecandefinethisas“taskdependency.”(DavidNunan)Accordingtohistheory,wesetourtasksasfollows:

WewilldealwithReadingintwoperiods.Ourtaskistoshowstudentshowtoexpressinthetargetlanguagethingsthey’vealreadyknownintheirfirstlanguage.Withtheteacher’sguidance,thestudentswillknowsomeinformationaboutdifferenttypesofjobs,theiradvantagesanddisadvantages,andbeabletofindtheauthor’sopinionswiththeclueoflinkwordsandhistoneofwriting.Inaddition,theycantalkabouttheirownthoughtsonjobsbyfollowingthesamplelanguage.

Itistimetoenlargethestudents’vocabularyandhelpthembuildnewschematainWordpower.Inourreallife,thecategoriesofprofessionsarefarmorecomplicatedthanthoseinthereadingtext.Thus,wecanhelpthestudentstoknowmoreaboutthecategoriesandqualitiesthatareneededinthesejobs.Thiswillprovideaplatformforthecomingtasks.

SimileandmetaphorarenottestedseparatelyintheCollegeEntranceExamination,whilewethinkitisofgreathelptoimprovestudents’readingandwritingability,especiallyfortopstudents.Soitisnecessaryforthemtoknowaboutthem.Bythismeanssomeofthestudentscantrytousethisfigureofspeechtomaketheirwritingandspeakingmorevividandpersuasive.
