Conclusion

Yetfewpeoplehavepaidseriousattentiontoitsdialogicfeatures.SincethepublicationofBakhtin’smajorworksonphilosophy,linguistics,andliterature,suchasTheDialogicImagination（1981）,ProblemsofDostoevsky’sPoetics（1984）,SpeechHenreandotherlateressays,dialogictheory,ordialogism,hasbecomeanewlyindependentcriticalweapon.Ithasgreatlyinfluencedtheliterarycircleinthewest.“ThehistoryofBakhtin’sreceptionsuggeststhatifwearetocontinuetothinkabouthisworkinawaythatisuseful,somesyntheticmeansmustbefoundforcategorizingthedifferentwayshemeditatedondialogue”（Holquist,1990;15）,itisobviousthatdialogueisthemostimportantkeytotheassumptionsthatguidedBakhtin’sworkthroughouthiswhilecareer.Thefamouscritic,BerndtOstendorf（1986）,hasalsowitnessedtheinfluenceofBakhtinonRalphEllison.Hehasobserved,“acasecouldbemadeforafamilyresemblancebetweenEllisonandMikhailBakhtin,whoseunderstandingofthenovelasadialogicformwithapolyphonyofvoicecomestomind”（151）.AndinChinaLuShanhasalsostudiedtheidentityproblemofthenovelbasedonpolyphonytheoryofBakhtin.
