Thepolicemanonthebeatwalkedalongthestreetashealwaysdid.Itwasbarelyteno’clockatnight.Whenhehadwalkedabouthalfwayaroundacertainblock,thepolicemansuddenlysloweddown.Inthedoorwayofastorestoodaman,withanunlitcigarinhismouth.Asthepolicemanwalkeduptohimthemanspokeupquickly.

巡逻的警察像往常一样沿着街道走着。

还不到晚上十点。

当他走过一个街区大约一半的时候，警察突然放慢了速度。
