Dama,meaningmiddle-agedwomen,wasfirstusedintheWesternmediabytheWallStreetJournalinMaywhenthousandsofChinesewomenwerebuyinguprecordnumberofgold.TheywerethedrivingforceintheglobalgoldmarketbetweenAprilandJunewhenthegoldpriceshadslumped(下跌).

“Wehavenearly120Chinese-linkedwordsnowinOxfordEnglishDictionary,”shesaid.Someofthemare:
