OneofthemostcriticaleconomicperiodsintheUnitedStateshistorywastheGreatDepression.AmajorityoftheU.S.citizensdidnotknowmuchabouttheDepression.Theonlyinformationthattheyknewwaswhattheyreadfromtextbooks.Manycitizensneverreallyhadtofacethehardshiplikeotherswereforcedtoface.GrowingUpbyRussellBakerisanautobiographyontheproblemsheandhisfamilyenduredduringthisera.
CausesoftheGreatDepression:
▪Speculation(投机)inthe1920scausedmanypeopletobuystockswithloanedmoney.Thestockmarketboomwasveryunsteady,becauseitwasbasedonborrowedmoneyandfalseoptimism.
▪PoliticiansbelievedthatbusinesswasthekeybusinessofAmerica.Thus,thegovernmenttooknoactionagainstunwiseinvesting.
