PabloPicassowasborninMalaga，SpainonOctober25,1881.Bytheageof15hehadbeenalreadytechnicallyskilledindrawingandpainting.Picasso'shighlyoriginalstylecontinuouslyevolvedthroughouthislongcareer，expandingthedefinitionofwhatartcouldbe.Inadditiontopainting，hewouldexploresculpture，ceramicsandotherartforms，andbecomeoneofthemostinfluentialartistsofthe1900s.

PaintingsfromPicasso'sblueperiod（1901－1904）depictforlornpeoplepaintedinshadesofblue，evokingfeelingsofsadnessandalienation.AfterhismovetoParisin1904，Picasso'sroseperiodpaintingstookonawarmer，moreoptimisticmood.In1907heandFrenchpainterGeorgeBraquepioneeredCubism.

By1912Picassohadincorporatednewspaperprint，postagestampsandothermaterialsintohispaintings.Thisstyleiscalledcollage.Inthelate1920sheturnedtowardaflat，cubist－relatedstyle.Inthe1930shispaintingsbecamemilitantandpolitical.Guernica（1937），amasterpiecefromthisperioddepictstheterrorofthebombingofthetownofGuernicaduringtheSpanishcivilwar.

FollowingWorldWarⅡ，Picasso'sworkbecamelesspoliticalandmoregentle.Hespenttheremainingyearsofhislifeexploringvarioushistoricalstylesofart，makingseveralreproductionsoftheworkofearlierartists.
