Inthislesson,thebladeisregardedasaSolidregion,whiletheregionsurroundingthebladeisregardedastheFluidregion.UsingBlockSplittingat“Prescribedpoint”,theuserwillgenerateaHexahedralMeshforbothoftheregions,sothatthetopologyofthesolidregionisadegenerate‘Hexahedral’mesh.

BeforetheuseremploystheCollapsefunctionforhis/herownapplications,confirmthatthesolveracceptsdegeneratedhexas(forastructuredsolver)orpenta_6elements(prism)foranunstructuredsolver.

AfterthePipeBladeprojectisopen,activatethePointsandSurfacesfromtheDisplayTree.SwitchonPoints>ShowPointsNames.

BegintheSurfacepartreassignmentbychangingtheregionenclosedbyGEOM/4-GEOM/7tothepartOUTLET.

TheregionthatisdenotedbyGEOM/0-GEOM/3shouldbereassignedtothepartINLET.

TheSurfacedefiningtheCylinderpipewillbeplacedintheSurfacepart,CYL.

ThesurfacesbelongingtothesolidbladeinthemiddleofthecylindershouldbeclassifiedasBLADE.

Withtheleftmousebutton,selecttwolocationsontheoppositesidesofthecylinder. NotethattheFLUIDmaterialpointshouldnotbewithintheBLADE. Iftetrameshing,thislocationwouldbeimportant. WithHexameshing,itisnot. Pressthemiddlemousebuttontoaccepttheselection,andpressApplyandtheBodynameFLUIDshouldappearwithinthegeometry(midwaybetweentheselectedlocations).RotatethemodeltoconfirmthatFLUIDisinanappropriatelocation.

NowenterSOLIDasthenewPartNameintheCreateBodywindow.

Pressthelocationselectionicon

 andselecttwolocationsonthebladesurfacessothatthemidpointwillbeinsideoftheblade. Pressthemiddlemousebuttontoaccept,andpressApply. AfteracceptingthisPartsassignment,dynamicallyrotatethemodeltoconfirmthatSOLIDisinsidetheblade.

Whenthisiscomplete,allcomponentsoftheGeometryshouldnowhavepartnameassignments.

DeleteanyEmptyParts:

 FromtheDisplayTree,rightmouseselectonParts>DeleteemptyParts.

File>SaveProjectAstosavetheupdatedmodelbeforecontinuingoninthistutorial. Givetheprojectanynameyouwant.

Similarly,makeanotherhorizontalsplitthroughtheprescribedpointGEOM/12. Thefinalresultwillhavethreehorizontalsplitsasshowninbelow.

 andselectanyofthehorizontaledges(whichisalongx-direction)tocreateaverticalsplit. IfSettings>Selection>AutopickmodeisOFF,pressApply,anditwillaskforalocationonthescreentosplitthrough. Selectonacurveoredgeonanylocationthatisverticallyinlinewiththerightsideoftheblade. IfAutopickmodeisON,youshouldleftmouseclickontheedgeandholdthebuttonwhiledraggingthesplittowhereyouwantit. Pressthemiddlemousebuttontocompletethesplitoperation. Thenusethesamemethodtocreateanotherverticalsplitontheleftsideoftheblade.

EverytimeablockSplitisperformed,theIndexcontrolisupdated.Afterthesplitsarecomplete,thenewrangeoftheKindexwillbefrom0-6.

CollapsingBlockstoDisplaytheBlade

Inthissection,theCollapsefeatureisintroducedtocreatedegenerateblocksfortheblade.

Forclarityintheseoperations,rightmouseclickintheDisplaytreeonBlocking>IndexControl. ChangetheIndexcontrolforthe‘I’dimensionsothattheMinis2andtheMaxis3. TurnOFFthePointsfromtheDisplaywindow.Therestrictedtopologyconsistsoffourblocks,wherethetwocenterblocksbelongtotheblade.

Beforecollapsingtheblocks,changethePartfamilyofthetwocenterblockstoSOLID,thematerialrepresentingtheblade.

RightmouseclickonSOLID>AddtopartunderneathPartsintheDisplayTree,anditwillopentheAddtoPartwindow. SelectBlockingMaterial,AddBlockstoPart

 ,andselecttheblocksofthebladeasshownbelow,thenpressthemiddlemousebuttontocompletetheoperation.

Choosetheedgethatshouldbecollapsed. Inthiscaseitistheshortestedgeoftheselectedblocks. Selectthetwoblocksshowninthefigurebelow.PressApplytoCollapsetheblocks.
