Ifaskedwhethertheinternetisthegreatdiscoveryofthe21thcentury,myanswerwouldbeyes.Ithasdawntheworldclosertogether,realizedcountlessincredibledream,andprovidedmodernpeoplewiththegreatmanyconveniencesandabrilliantlife.Commonfolkslikeusrelyonthecyberworldinvariousways,forcommunication,entertainment,bankingandshopping.

Forisconvenience,theinternethasattractedpeoplelikemagnetsandsomeevengetaddictedtoit.Somestudiesestimateasmanyas10percentofChina’syoungwebusersareaddict–mostlytoonlinemultiplayergames.Someindividualsshowedphysicalsignsofaddictionwhenkeptawayfromtheircomputers,verysimilartosubstance-dependentaddicts;othersignorefood,drinkandsleepforthesakeofgaming.

Inmyview,internetdoesmakeourliveseasierbutweshouldn’thencegetobsessedwith.It’snecessarythatweunderstandtheroleoftheinternet-itaddscolor,butshouldnotserveastheonlycolorinlife.So,usetheinternetbutneverabuseit;otherwise,lifehuddledinfrontofacomputerscreenwillharmusphysically,psychologicallyandsocially.

AgingofthePopulation

PeopleinChinaarelivinglongerandlongerwhilenewbabiesareinsufficienttotakeplaceofthem.Asaresult,Chinahasbecomeanagingsociety,withthepopulationover60reaching134million,ormorethan10percentofthecountry's1.3billiontotal.

Theagingofthepopulationisputtingmoreandmoreseriouspressureonbothsocietyandfamily.Nationalexpenditurefortheagingpopulationisalwaysontheincrease.Tomakemattersworse,adecliningproportionoftheworkingpopulationislikelytohindertheeconomicdevelopment.Asfortheyoungcouples,theyarestrugglingharderthanevertosupporttheiroldparentswhileraisingtheirchildrenatthesametime.

Amongthefollowingthreewaystoaddressthissituation,thefirstistopaydueattentiontoguaranteeingthebasiclivingstandardsoftheelderlyandsafeguardingtheirlegitimaterightsandinterests.Secondly,theelderlyshouldbegivenfullchancetoplayanactiveroleinoursociallifeandmakeacontributiontothewholesociety.Last,butnotleast,weshouldpersistinoureffortstodevelopthemarketwhichprovidesproductsfortheelderlyandstimulatethegrowthofoureconomy.
