Inthestudy,theresearcherslookedattheresultsof11surveysfrom1994to2008,inwhichparticipantsrecordedtheirwalkingpace,aswellasage,sexandBMI.Theanalysisshowedthatwalkingatanaveragepacewasassociatedwitha20percentriskreductionforall-causemortality(死亡率)comparedwithwalkingataslowpace,whilewalkingatabriskorfastpacewasassociatedwithariskreductionof24percent.

Theresearchershopethefindingswillencouragethedevelopmentofpublichealthmessageaboutthebenefitsofwalkingpace.ProfessorStamatakisadded,“Theseanalysessuggestthatincreasingwalkingpacemaybeastraightforwardwayforpeopletoimprovehearthealthandriskforprematuremortality---providingasimplemessageforpublichealthcampaignstopromote.

“Especiallyinsituationswhenwalkingmoreisn’tpossibleduetotimepressuresoralesswalking-friendlyenvironment,walkingfastermaybeagoodoptiontogettheheartrateup---onethatmostpeoplecaneasilyaddtotheirlives.”
