Packingisofparticularimportanceinforeigntradebecauseocean
voyagesmaybemostdamagingtothegoodsthatarenotproperlypacked.
Accident,
roughweather,
unloading,
reloadingandpilferage,everything
onthewayhastobetakenintoconsiderationtoensurethesafearrival
ofthe
goods.Different
types
of
goods—goodssubjectto
breakage,
goods
subject
tomoisture,
goodswith
still
other
special
treatment
in
transit
—require
different
types
of
packing.
That’swhysomelarge
export
forms
haveaspecialdepartmentforexportpackingandthewholequestionis
under
regular
review.
Manyfirms
employ
special
export
packers
or
forwardingagentstodotheirpackingforthem.

AnIntroductiontoPacking
Packingisofgreatimportanceininternationaltrade.Itmaybeappropriatelysaidthatpackingistogoodswhatclothingistomen.Packingnotonlyservesasaformofprotection,butalsofacilitatesloading,unloadingandstowage,andpreventspilferage.Furthermoreit
canpromotesales.Packingcanbedividedintotransportpacking（usually
knownasouter
packing）
andsales
packing（usuallyknownasinner
packing）.
Transportpackingisdonemainlyto
keepthegoodssafeandsoundduring
transportation.Itmustnotonlybesolidenoughtopreventthepacked
goodsfromanydamage,butalsobepilferage-proof,easytostoreand
convenient
toloadandunload.
Salespackingis
donemainly
to
pushsales.
Itisnowuniversallyrecognizedasadecisiveaidinsellinghousehold
consumergoods.Itcanberealizedinvariousformsandwithdifferent
materialsaslongasitisnicetolookat,easytohandleandhelpful
tothe
sales.
Still,
there
is
another
category
of
packing,
called
“neutralpacking
”.Thiskind
ofpacking
carries
nomarkof
thenameof
theoriginalcountryofthepackedgoodsandnosignsoftheoriginal
trademark,withtheviewtoeludethetariffoftheimportcountryor
satisfythebuyer
’sspecialreq
uirement.

运输包装不仅仅要足够结实，从而避免货物的损坏，而且还要防盗、易于存储和装卸。
销售
包装主要是为了促进销售。
在家庭用品的销售上，人们现在普遍认为包装的作用至关重要。
只要外表美观、易于携带并促进销售，销售包装外表可以五花八门，材料也可以各种各样。
另外还有一种包装称作“中性包装”
。
这种包装外表没有货物原产国的标示，也没有原产商
标，目的是逃避进口国的关税或满足买方的特殊要求。

markrequired
byauthorities.
Forexample,
somecountries
require
thenameofthe
original
country
of
thegoodsto
bemarkedonevery
package,andweightanddimensionsmayalsoberequired;
（3）Specialdirections
orwarnings.
Forexample,variouswarningsareto
bestenciledonthepackagesforthebenefitofboththeownerandthe
carrier,suchasTHISSIDEUP,DONOTDROP,andOPENTHISSIDE.
Requirementforinnerpackingisincreasinglyhigh,withbeautiful
color,
creative
design
andconvenient
handling
asitschief
concern.The
primary
motive
for
innerpacking
is
topromotethesales
of
theparticular
goods.
Details
suchasmannerof
packing,
kindsofpacking
materials
andthe
burdenof
packing
cost
should
beunmistakably
stipulated
inthe
contract
concernedandstrictlyobservedbyboththesellingsideandthebuying
side.Letteraboutpacking
issues
shouldbeconcise
andclear.
Anychanges
regarding
packing
stipulated
inthe
contract
should
bemutually
discussed
anddeterminedbeforepacking.
