  ScientistsinGrenoble,France,fracturedportionsofthecoreandmeasuredthecompositionof

  ancientairreleasedfrombubblesintheice.Instrumentswereusedtomeasuretheratioofcertain

  280partspermillion,butneverrosemuchhigher-untiltheIndustrialRevolutionbeginninginthe

  eighteenthcenturyandcontinuingtoday.
