1.WhatwasthesocialandclassrealityoftheAnglo-Normanperiod?

●After1066,theAnglo-Normanperiodbegan.TheNormanwasinoriginScandinavian.Theyprotectedtheirfeudalmonarchybyastrongpower.WilliamtheConquerordividedthelandofEnglandamonghisfollowerswhobecamebarons,whichthedefeatedAnglo-Saxonsworkedasserfsandpeasantsforthemandwerecruellyexploitedandoppressed.Besidesthekingandthelords,onethirdofthelandinthelandinthecountrywasownedbytheChurch.Norman-Frenchwasmadetheofficiallanguageofthestate,whileEnglishwasignored.ThelowlypeoplekepttoEnglishandgraduallytheinvaderswereassimilated.theEnglishlanguagesurvived,andbecamearicherandmorematurelanguageafterabsorbingagreatmanyFrenchwordsintoitsvocabulary.AtthistimethattheEnglishlanguagelostmostofitsoldAnglo-Saxonsflexions.

●TheFaerieQueene(1569),Spenser`smajorachievement,however,isunfinished.Itisanallegoricalromanceinverse.Accordingtohisplan,thereshouldbe12books,eachtellingtheadventuresofoneknightdispatchedbytheFaerieQueen,Gloria,whorepresentsgloryinthegeneralandQueenElizabethinparticular.
