1.TV—BlessingorCurse?
Fewthingsinthemodernworldhavesomuchinfluenceonpeopleasthetelevisiondoes.BeingbesiegedwithTVnews,absorbingteleplays,well-mastermindedprograms,onecaneasilyconcludethatTVisarealblessingtothehumansociety,offeringaffluententertainmentandinformation.Yet,convenientandhelpfulasitis,thetelevisionalsobringsnegativeeffects.
Tobeginwith,TVmakespeoplemorepassivethanbefore:
sinceeverythingonTVisready-made,thereisnospaceforaudience’sinitiatives.Thenewshasbeencarefullyedited,teleplayswellshot,programsrehearsed,soallyouneedtodo—andallyoucandoistositonacomfortablesofaandlookatthescreen.Thoughalotofpeopleenjoydoingthis,theundoubtedtruthisthatpeoplearebecomingmorepassivesimplybecausethereisnointeractionandnoeffortsonthem.
Televisionalsocontributestothefactthatpeoplenowadaysaremoredistanttoeachother.SincemostofourfreetimeistakenawaybytheactofwatchingTV,wecannolongerfindenoughtimetovisitfriends,callonrelativesorgotointerestingplaces.Thisisalsotruewithinafamily,parentsandchildrenandothermembersarelessclosetoeachother,becausefamilyget-togethersandconversationsaredisturbedbyTV—whenonememberiswatchingTV,hewouldlikeotherstokeepquiet.
OfcourseIamnotdenyingthegreatconveniencesandhugebenefitstheTVbringsus,buttomakeitareallyblessingtous,weshouldtrytoavoiditsnegativeeffects.

4.IncomeSourcesofCollegeStudents
Accordingtotheinvestigationoftheincomesourcesofstudents,theincomeofAmericanandChinesestudentscomesfromparents,part-timejobandscholarship,However,thepercentageofeachincomeisquitedifferent,FiftypercentoftheAmericanstudentsincomecomesfromtheirparents,fifteenpercentcomesfromthescholarshipsgrantedbycollegesanduniversitiesandtherestcomesfrompart-timejobs.NinetypercentofChinesestudents'incomecomesfromtheirparents.
Inmyopinion,themainreasonsforthedifferenceisthatAmericanstudentsaretaughttobeindependentwhentheyareveryyoung,whileChinesestudentsaretakensuchgoodcareofthatitisverydifficultforthemtoliveontheirown.What'smore,Chinesestudentshavefeweropportunitiestofindpart-timejobs.

5.Campuslove
Nowadays,campusloveispopular.Somecollegeteachersarguethatstudentsshouldgiveuploveforthesakeoflearning.Theymaintainthatloveistimeconsumingandinfluencesone’slearning.Somestudents,however,holdthatastudentwhofallsinlovewillstudyharderandwillmakegreaterprogress.Theydon'tbelievethatapersoninlovelagsbehindinhisstudies.

6.Competitionandcooperation
Competitionisacommonphenomenoninoursociety.Wecompetewhenweplaygames,wetrytodobetterthanothersinourstudy,andthereisconstantcompetitionforjobs,fame,wealthandsoforth.Therefore,wecansaythat,inacertainsense,competitionisoneofthemotiveforcesofthedevelopmentofourmodernsociety.
Itisoftenbelieved,thatcompetitionandcooperationareinoppositiontoeachother.Somepeoplestresscompetition,withoutwhich,intheireyes,thereisnoresponsibility,nodriveandultimately,noprogress.Othersadvocatecooperationwhatevertheydo.Theyareoftheopinionthatthedependenceofpeopleononeanotherhasincreased,withoutwhichthesocietyweliveincannotkeepgoingsmoothly.Inreality,wefindthatinmanycasescompetitiongoeshandinhandwithcooperation.Letstakeafootballgameforexample.Duringthegame,oneteamiscompetingagainsttheother,buteachmemberoftheteammustcooperatewithhisteammates.Otherwise,theywouldlosethegamenomatterhowskillfuleachindividualplayermightbe.Itisclearthatcompetitionhasmuchtodowithcooperation.
AsfarasI'mconcerned,Idonotagreewiththeviewthatcompetitionandcooperationarealwaysinconflictwitheachother.Inmyopinion,whileadvocatingcompetition.Weshouldneverforgetcooperation.Inoursociallife,cooperationisespeciallynecessarybecausemostworkisfulfilledwithorthroughotherpeople.SoI’vecometotheconclusionthatcompetitionandcooperationareequallyimportant.
