Atwo-daybarrage(密集攻击)ofcruisemissileswillnottip(颠覆,倾斜)thebalanceoftheSyriancivilwaragainsttheAssadregime.Ittooksevenmonthsofbombingplussubstantial(实质的)militaryassistancetoLibyanrebels totopple(推翻)MoammarGadhafi'sfriendlessregime. Al-Assadhasatightergrip(掌握)onpowerandmoreinternationalallies.
Odds(希望,可能性)arethataftertheboom-boomceases,thecivilwarwillresume(重新开始).Syriangovernmentforceswilllikelycontinuetocommitatrocities(暴行)(althoughmaybenexttimebysomemeansotherthanpoisongas).Therebelswillverylikelycontinuetolose.
