Carnivalisanannualcelebrationoflifefoundinmanycountriesoftheworld.Andinfact,bylearningmoreaboutcarnivalwecanlearnmoreaboutacceptingandunderstandingothercultures.

Manyyearsago,thefollowersoftheCatholic（基督教的）religioninItalystartedthetraditionofholdingawildcostumefestivalrightbeforethefirstdayofLent.BecauseCatholicsarenotsupposedtoeatmeatduringLent,theycalledtheirfestival,carnival—whichmeans“toputawaythemeat”．Astimepassed,carnivalinItalybecamequitefamousandinfactitspreadtoFrance,Spain,andalltheCatholiccountriesinEurope.ThenastheFrench,Spanish,andPortuguesebegantotakecontroloftheAmericasandotherpartsoftheworld,theybroughtwiththemtheirtraditionofcelebratingcarnival.
