Theresultsshowedthatamongstmenandwomenwithlowerlevelsofauthorityatwork,womenhadslightlyhigherlevelsofdepression.Thisisnormalsinceoverallwomensufferfromdepressionslightlymorethanmen.Amongstmenandwomenwithhigherlevelsofauthorityatwork,however,itwaswomenwhohadmanymoresymptomsofdepressionthanmen.Meninauthorityactuallyhada10%lowerriskofdepression,whileauthorityincreasedtheriskofwomenhavingdepressivesymptomsby9%.

DrPudrovskacontinued:

“Whatshockedusisthatwomenwithjobauthorityinourstudyareadvantagedintermsofmostcharacteristicsthatarestrongsignsofpositivementalhealth.Thesewomenhavemoreeducation,higherincomes,betterjobs,andhigherlevelsofjobsatisfactionthanwomenwithoutjobauthority.Yet,theyhaveworsementalhealththanlower-status(地位)women.”
