fierceconflictsbetweenthesettlersfromoverseasandthesenativepeoples.AftertheBritishgovernmentandmilitarywereexpelled（赶走）intheRevolutionaryWar,conflictswithnativescontinuedasthestateswerecreatedthatwouldlatermakeuptheUS.Intheseconflicts,millionsofnativeswerekilled.

In1830,PresidentAndrewJacksonsignedtheIndianRemovalAct.ThisactrequiredallIndianstomigratetothewestoftheMississippiRivertoallowfortheexpansionoftheUS.AmericanIndiansweretreatedasamilitary“enemy”until1924,whenthefewIndiansstillaliveatthatpointweregrantedUScitizenship.ThatwasthefirsttimethattheUSgovernmentformallyrecognizedIndiansashumanbeings.
