Thehumanities
Thehumanitiesareagroupofacademicdisciplinesthatstudythehumancondition,usingmethodsthatareprimarilyanalytical,critical,orspeculative.Therefore,theyaredistinguishedfromtheapproachesofnaturalsciences.Thehumanities,calledsocialsciences,includehistory,anthropology,communicationstudies,culturalstudies,law,language,literature,philosophy,religion,musicandtheater,etc.Throughexplorationofthehumanities,studentslearnhowtothinkcreativelyandcritically,toreason,andtoaskquestions.Becausetheseskillsallowstudentstogainnewinsightsintoeverythingfrompoetryandpaintingstobusinessmodelsandpolitics,humanisticsubjectshavebeenattheheartofaliberalartseducation.Today,humanisticknowledgecontinuestoprovidetheidealfoundationforexploringandunderstandingthehumanexperience.However,withtheeconomicdowntrend,manycollegesanduniversitiesintendtocutliberalartscoursestosavemoney,andstudentsalsotrytotakenaturalsciencecoursestohelpthemseekjobopportunities.Whetherornotstudyingcoursesinthehumanitieshasthusbecomeacontroversialquestion.
