Thereisn’tacompletereportofhislife,butitiscommonlyacceptedthathewasbornonApril23,1564inStratford-upon-Avon.Wearealsotoldthathewasthethirdoftheeightchildrenandhewasprobablyeducatedatthelocalgrammarschool,wherethemainsubjecttaughtwasLatin,bothspokenandwritten.Maybetheclassicalwriter’stheyhadstudiedintheclassroominfluenceShakespeare’splaysandpoetry,sohegaveussomanyvividcharactersinhisworks.ItisnotknownwhatShakespearedidwhenheleftschool,probablyattheageoffourteen,aswasusual.ButitissaidthatinNovember1582hemarriedAnneHathaway,thedaughterofalocalfarmer.ItisalsosaidthatwhentheyweremarriedWilliamwaseighteenandAnnewastwenty-six.

ShakespearediedinStratfordonApril23,1616.Sincethe19thcentury,Shakespeare’sachievementshavebeenmorerecognized,andthroughouttheWesternworldhehascometoberegardedasthegreatestdramatist.
