1.BASICDEFINITIONSINSABER

1.1Symbols:

Symbolsareschematicrepresentationoftheapplicationslikelamps,ecus,groundpointsswitchesetc.Symbolshaveportswherethewiresgetattached.Theyhavedifferentviewswhichcanbeshared.(Discussedlater).Eachsymbolhasashellassociatedwithit.ThepropertyShell_Aofthesymboldeterminestheconnectormatingwiththeapplicationandcomingontheharnessside.

1.2ConnectorSymbols:

Theserepresenttheconnector.Thesesymbolscontainonlyportdetailsoftheconnectori.e.theNumberofportsandtheportnameasshown.Thesesymbolsarelinkedtothesaberconnectordatabaseinthesitemanagerdiscussedlater.

1.3Wires:

Wiresinsaberarephysicalwiresconnectingtwodifferentportsoraspliceandasymbolport.PropertieslikeColor,Specifications,wiretype,conductorpropertiescanbeassignedtothewires.(Discussedlater).

1.4Cable:

Acableinsaberiscollectionofphysicalwiresgroupedtogetherandsheathedbyanouterwrapping.Acablecanincludeothersubcables.Cablesaredefinedinpartsdatabase(Discussedlater).

1.5Splice:

Splicerepresentsphysicaljunctionorconnectionbetweentwoormorewires.Likesymbols,splicealsocanbeshared.

1.6Shell:

Shellisthepropertyofthecomponentsymbol.Itisthecomponentmountedconnector.

Itistheconnectorinsidethecomponentwhichreceivestheconnectorontheharnessside.

1.7Connector:

Connectorinsaberisthephysicalconnectorwhichwouldcomeintheharnessside.

 

1.8InlineConnector:

ItisasinglePlugandSocketpair.Usuallyusedtorepresentinterconnectionsbetweentwoharnesses.Inlineconnectorsareconnectedintoshelltomakeupaconnectorblock.(Discussedlater)

1.9Terminal:

Itisametalconductorattachedtotheendofthewireandinsertedintotheconnector/Shellcavity.TerminalsmaybemaleorFemale.

1.10Cavity:

Itisaplaceholderontheshell/Connectorthatcontainseitheraterminaloraseal.

1.11Passives:

Saberharnessusesthistermforanythingthatdoesn'thavedirectsimulationbehaviour.Theseincludetapemarkings,Grommetsandthehardwareassociatedwiththeconnectorshell.Theseareincludeinthepartsdatabase.

1.12Variants:

Variantsandassemblynumbersarewaysoforganizingsothatmanufacturinginformationcanbeeasilyextractedfromthedesigns.Severalwireharnessdesignssharemanycommonelementsamongthemselves.SaberHarnessallowstotreatcommonelementsasabasedesignsothatthecommonsetplusadditionstoitcancompriseadifferentdesign,calledavariant.

1.13Assembly:

Anassemblyisauniquecombinationofvariantsfromwithinaharness.Anassemblynumberisequivalenttoapartnumber.Anassemblynumberwillbeassignedtoacompleteharnessmadeupofwires,splices,connectorsandpossiblycomponents.

 

1.14Variable:

Saberharnesssupportsvariables,suchasawirelength,whichmaybeusedtocreateuniqueassemblynumbers.Fore.g.,twoharnessdesignsmaybeidenticalineveryrespectexceptthatinoneoptionawireislongerthantheotheroption.Inthiscaseavariableisusedwhichcanbesetaccordingtothearticlenumberbeingcreated.Thiswouldbemoreclearintheexampleexplainedlater.

1.15APS:

APSorAutomaticpartsselectionisusedtogetterminalsandsealsonconnectors.Itisautomaticallydoneinsaber.ForAPStoruneachconnectorshouldhavearulealreadydefined.Theruleiswritteninthesitemanagerandwillbeautomaticallysetontheconnectorwhenthepartnumberisselected.RunAPSbeforestartingSaberbundle.

1.16Ref:

AllcomponentsinSaberhaveauniqueidentifiercalleda"Ref".Whenasymbolisinitiallyplacedintheschematicsaberassignsageneric"Ref".Refscanbeuserdefined.Notwosymbolshavewillhaveidenticalrefs.

2.1CreateNewWorkspace:

∙TocreatenewworkspaceSelectSchematic/VersionControl/Newuserworkspace.Selectthedesireddesignfromtherepository,anewworkspacewillbecreated.

Oncetheworkspaceiscreatedtheschematicsheetscanbenormallybrowsedusingthefolder.

∙SelecttheDesiredsheetnumbertobedisplayed.

∙CheckouttheSheet.

∙Toaddnewsheet,SelectSchematic/Multisheet/Add.

∙Selecttheborderdisplayicontogettheborderonthesheet.

∙Toaddtemplate,SelecttheBorder,Rightclickselectborderconfiguration,SelectBorderrighttab,Intheheaderdatacolumnselecttherequiredtemplate.

 

3.Createsymbols.

3.1ComponentSymbols.

∙Tocreateanewsymbol,itisadvisabletousecopyofsimilarsymbolsavailableinthePartsGallery.Thisreducesthetimerequiredtocreateanewsymbol.

∙Openasheet,Selectasimilarsymbolfromthepartsgalleryandplaceitonthesheet.

∙Selectthesymbol,rightclickandselectsymboleditor.

∙TheSymbolwillbedisplayedinanewwindow.Herethesymbolcanbeedited.

∙SelectFile/SaveasoptionandbrowsetoW:

/new_symbolsfolder.TypethedesirednameinnamewindowandSavethenewsymbolatthislocation.Thisisaveryimportantstep.Donoteditandsavethesymbolwithoutfollowingthisstepasitwillresultintheexistingsymbolinthepartsgallerytobeedited.

∙AttheToprightofthesheet,thelocationofthesymbolisdisplayed.Checkifitisdenotingthenewsymbolsfolder.

 

∙Portsarelocationsofwireattachment.

∙TocreateanewportRightclickonthesheet,SelectCreate/AnalogPort.

∙Selectandmovetheporttothedesiredlocation.Renametheportwiththedesirednomenclature.

∙ToaddviewtothesymbolRightclickonthesheetandselectsymbolview.

∙SelecttheCreatetab,Enterthenameanddescriptionofthesymbolview,selecttheimportGraphicsfromthefirstview.Thenewviewwillbelistedintheviewlist.

∙SelectModifytabtoseetheviewlist.

∙Selectthenewlycreatedviewandselectapply.NowedittheViewforanydesiredchanges.Portscanbehiddenindifferentview.

 

∙Tohideportsinaparticularview,Selectthedesiredview,Rightclickonthesheet,selectportvisibility.Portvisibilitydialogboxopens.Selectthedesiredportsandselectapply.

∙Defaultviewmustcontainallthedetailsofthesymbol.

∙Defaultviewshouldnotbeedited.

 

∙Symbolshaveasetofproperties.Thesehavetobedefinedatthetimeofsymbolcreation.

∙Toaddtheseproperties,Rightclickonthesheetandselectproperties.

∙Propertiesdialogboxwillopen.Thedesiredpropertiescanbeadded.

∙ToaddanewpropertyrowuseTabkey.

∙Eachpropertyhasattributeswhichcanbesettothedesiredvalue.Belowtableshowstheattributesforeachsymbolproperty.

 

 

3.2ConnectorSymbols.

∙Connectorsymbolsrepresentthepropertiesofaconnector.

∙Thesecontainonlyports.

∙Propertiesfortheconnectorsymbolsareidenticaltocomponentsymbols.(Refabovelist)

∙Eachportintheconnectorsymbolhasasetofpropertieswhichneedstobedefine.

∙Thebelowimageshowsthesetofportproperties.

 

∙Thepropertiesentry_port,grouping,internal_lenareuserdefinedproperties.ThesepropertiesdeterminetheEntry_port,portgroupingandInternallengthvalues,whenthesaberschematicdataisimportedintoProein.nwfformat.

 

3.3CreateCablesymbols:

∙CableinsaberarerepresentedinSymbols.

∙Thecablesymbolenclosesallthewiresincludedinthecableasshown

 

∙Cablesymbolsaremadeandstoredsimilartothecomponentsymbols.

∙Differentsymbolsrepresentingvarioustypesofcablescanbemade.

3.4CreatingConnectorDatabaseinSiteManager.

∙Saberconnector,wiredatabaseismanagedinSitemanagerandisstoredin.guifileintheSitemanagerfolder.

∙OpentheStartscriptsfolderinthesaberdriveandopentheSite_manager_VCEfile.

∙Notenoneofthefieldscanbeopened.

∙SelectFile/opensiteandselectthesamesitemanagerfile.Nowallthefieldscanbeedited.

∙SelecttheShelltab.Variouscategoriesofshellwillbelisted.Newcategorycanbeaddedbyselectingtheuppermostfolder,RightclickandselectAddcategory.

∙Enterthedetailsintherequiredfields.

∙Inthepartcolumnenterthenamefortheshell.Syntaxis

∙Inthesymbolcolumnenterthenameoftheconnectorsymbol.

∙Similarlyentertheotherrequireddetails.

∙Selectsaveatthebottomofthesitemanagertosavethechangesmadeinthesitemanager.Close
