AcoupleinSweetwater,Texashadalotofpottedplants,andinwinterthewifebroughtalotofthemindoorstoprotectthemfromapossiblefreeze.Itturnedoutthatalittlegreengrasssnakewashiddeninoneoftheplantsandwhenithadwarmedup,itslithered[(蛇)游动]outandthewifesawitgounderthesofa.Sheletoutaveryloudscream.Thehusbandranoutintothelivingroomtoseewhattheproblemwas.Shetoldhimtherewasasnakeunderthesofa.Hegotdownontheflooronhishandsandkneestolookforit.

Aboutthattimethefamilydogcameandtouchedhimonthelegwithitscoldnose.Hethoughtthesnakehadbittenhimandhefainted.Hiswifethoughthehadaheartattack,soshecalledanambulance.Theattendantsrushedinandloadedhimonthestretcherandstartedcarryinghimout.

AboutthattimethesnakecameoutfromunderthesofaandtheEmergencyMedicalTechniciansawitanddroppedhisendofthestretcher.Thehusbandhadhislegbrokenandwassenttothehospital.

Bynowthepolicehadarrived.Theycalledanambulance,whichtookawaythewomanandtheneighbor.Justthenthelittlesnakecrawledoutfromunderthecouch.Oneofthepolicemendrewhisgunandfiredatit.Hemissedthesnakeandhitthelegofthetableononesideofthesofa.Thetablefelloverandthelamponitshatteredandasthebulbbroke,itstartedafireinthecurtains.Theburningcurtainsthenspreadtothewallsandtheentirehousewasblazing.
