RecentCelerraSnapSureenhancementsincludethefollowing:

•Accessiblefromtheproductionfilesystem—Afterasnapiscreatedandmounted,alllevelsoftheproductionfilesystemwillautomaticallycontainanhiddenentryoftheform“.ckpt_.”ThisreducestheburdenontheSystemAdministratorbyenablinganyusertoretrieveolderversionsoffilesordirectoriesthatmatchtheuser’saccessprivileges.Theretrievalprocessallowssimplenavigationthroughread-onlydirectoriesontheproductionfilesystem.

•Deleteoutoforder—Allowsscheduledsnapstooperatemoreefficiently(e.g.,candeletedailysnapsbetweentwoweeklysnaps).

WithDART5.6,CelerraSnapSureforNASfilesystemshasbeenenhancedtosupportwriteablesnaps,whichareidealforcreatingtestenvironmentsfordatabasesandfiles.Aftertesting,thechangescaneitherbediscardedornon-destructivelyappliedtotheproductiondata.

Celerrasupportsupto16writeablesnapsperproductionfilesystem,whichisinadditiontothe96supportedread-onlysnapsperfilesystem.

Itisnotpossibletomakemorethanonewriteablesnapfromasinglebase(read-only)snap,andyoucannotsnapawriteablesnap.

AllupdatestowriteablefilesystemsnapcopiesarestoredintheSavVol.

Inthiscase,non-destructivereferstothefactthattheproductionfilesystemisitselfsnappedpriortorestoresothataroll-backoftherestorecanbemadeifitisdeemedthattherestorewasperformedbymistake.

CelerraManagerBasicEditionhasscreensthatpermitAdministratorstospecifyhowcheckpointsshouldbescheduledandthefrequencyofrefresh.

TheAdministratorindicateswhenthesnapshotsshouldoccur,alongwiththemaximumnumberofcheckpointstokeep.Forexample,ifyouwanttomaintainsevendaysofcheckpointsonaparticularfilesystem,youwouldscheduleanightlysnapshotandchoosetoalwayskeepsevencheckpoints.

Inaddition,throughintegrationwithMicrosoftShadowCopyforSharedFolders,userscanperformfile-levelrestoresusingMicrosoftExplorer’s“PreviousVersions”Propertytab.

Forapplication-consistentiSCSIsnapshotmanagement(SQL,Exchange,Oracle),EMCReplicationManagercanbeused.

CelerraReplicatorprovidesefficient,asynchronousdatareplicationoverInternetProtocol(IP)networks.WithCelerraReplicator,youcancreatepoint-in-time,NASfilesystemcopiesandconsistentiSCSILUNcopiesonlocalorremotesites.

•WithCelerraReplicator,boththeproductiondataandreplicaareaccessibleatalltimes.

•AninitialcopycanbemadeoverthenetworkorbyphysicallytransportingtheimageviatapeoranadditionalCelerratotheremotelocation.

•Aftertheinitialsynchronization,CelerraReplicatorusesdifferentialsnapshotstosendonlythechangesoverthewire.

•CelerraReplicatorsupportsapplication-consistentiSCSIreplication.ThehostcaninitiatethereplicationviaReplicationManager.

•ForCIFSenvironments,theVirtualDataMover(VDM)functionalityensuresthatthenecessarycontextisreplicatedtotheremotesitealongwiththefilesystems.ThisincludesCIFSserverdata,auditlogs,andlocalgroups.

•Forasynchronousdatarecovery,thesecondarycopycanbemaderead/write,andproductioncancontinueattheremotesite.Iftheprimarysystembecomesavailable,incrementalchangesatthesecondarycopycanbeplayedbacktotheprimarywiththere-synchronizationfunction.

WithDART5.6andgreater,CelerraReplicatoradvancesIPstorageprotectionwithasetofkeyenhancements,including:

•Automatedservice-leveldefinitions—AdministratorscanimplementRPOsforreplicatedfilesystemsbysimplysettingtheMaximumTimeOutofSyncparameterintheCelerraManager.CelerraReplicatorwillautomaticallyscheduleupdatestomeetthisservicelevel.Iftheservicelevelcannotbemet,analertwillbegenerated.Thisenhancementallowsuserstodefinedisasterrecoveryservicelevelsdirectlyfrombusinesspolicies.

•Policy-based,adaptiveQualityofServiceforreplicationinterconnects—Thesource-to-destinationIPnetworkinterconnectscanbethrottledbyspecifyingascheduleoftimes,days,andbandwidthlimits.ThisenhancementallowsAdministratorstodefineremotesitenetworkbandwidthutilizationdirectlyfrombusinesspolicies.

•1-to-nreplication—CelerraReplicatorcansimultaneouslyreplicateasinglesourceacrossn(maximumoffour)sites.Thisisidealfordistributingsharedinformationforengineeringandsoftwaredevelopment,companieswithmultipledisasterrecoverysites,andformultipleremotetestenvironments.

•CascadingReplication—Formulti-sitedisasterrecoveryenvironments,Celerracanreplicatetoasecondarysite,andreplicatefromthesecondarysitetoatertiarysite.ThisisidealfortieredreplicationwherethenearbydisasterrecoverysiterequiresanRPOofminutesandthefardisasterrecoverysiterequiresanRPOofhours.Thisdeploymentmaintainsdisasterrecoverycomplianceifanysiteislost,andcanrecoverfromthelossoftwosites.

•Improvedscalability—Upto1,024replicationsessionsisa16timesincreaseinthenumberofconfiguredreplicationsessions.AdministratorscanprotectextremelylargeIPstoragedeploymentsorhavefinergranularityinsegmentingtheirinformationbyRTO/RPOrequirements.

•Commonreplicationmanagement—CelerraManagernowsupportsallreplicationtypes—filesystem,VDM,oriSCSI.Now,replicationsessionsaredisplayedinaconsistentmannerwithintheCelerraManager.
