Inrecentyears,FujianprovincebegantodigforthepotentialvaluebehindtheFujian-Taiwancultureintermsofpromotingthenationaltraditionalcultureanddeepeningthecross-straitculturalexchange,andithassuccessfullylaunchedtheCross-StraitFolkCultureFestivalonayearlybasis,endowingtheFujian-Taiwanfolkculturewithanewconnotationoftheera.
IfyouareinterestedinFujian-Taiwanfolkculture,nowthereisanewplacequiteworthyofyourvisit,thatis,Fujian-TaiwanFolkculturaltowninXiamen.TheinaugurationceremonyhonoringtheancienttownforFujian-TaiwanfolkculturewasheldonJan3,2013inXiamenwhenTheFujian-Taiwanfolkculturalexhibitionkickedoffandeightmuseumsofdifferentthemestherewereopentothepublicforfreeforanextendedperiod.HouxiChenghuangTemple,locatedinChengneivillage,HouxitowninJimeidistrictofXiamen,isasymbolofculturalcommunicationbetweenFujianandTaiwan.Nowadays,manyTaiwanworshipersgotoChenghuangTempletomakeapilgrimageeveryyear.TheconstructionofthefolkculturaltownheretherebyhasgreatsignificanceinpreservingtheFujian-TaiwanfolkcultureanditprovidesagoodplatformforpeopleacrossTaiwanstraitstodeepentheirunderstandingofcross-straitfolkculture.TherenownedreliccollectorinTaiwanHongMingzhangsays:
”Haveawalkaroundhereandlookcarefully,andyouwillfindlotsofinterestingthingsandgettoknowaboutthecharmoftheancienttownaswellasthefolkculture.Althoughhavingbeenhereforacoupleoftimesalready,Istilldon’tfeeltiredofit.”
SteppingintotheChengneivillage,youwillseetheChenghuangTempleinXiaCityrightinfrontofyou.Inthevillage,therearemanywell-preservedancienthousesinsouthernFujianprovinceandagateofancientcitythatremainedunaffectedtillnow———GongchengGate.ItisreportedthattheemperorofQingDynastyKangxidecreedinhisfirstyear1662thatacitybebuilthereandnamedit“Chengnei”whichisalsocalled“XiaCity”.Inthemeantime,theChenghuangTempleinXiaCitywasconstructedintheSouthGateofthecitywhichisalsocalled“LinhaiGate”,forthehopeofgettingGod’sblessing.TheChenghuangTempleaheadofyounowisarestorationcompletedinthe1990sontheoriginalsiteandthewholevillagehasalreadybeenrebuiltintotheunique Fujian-Taiwanfolkculturaltown.
Uptonow,Fujian-TaiwanFolkCulturalTownisthelargestmuseumcommunityinXiamenwitheightfolkculturalmuseumsofdifferentthemes,includingacross-straitsmuseum,aFujian-Taiwanofficialsuppliers’museum,Fujian-Taiwanhorizontalinscribedboardmuseum, FujianandTaiwanWineCultureMuseum,Fujian-Taiwanoldmoviesmuseum,Fujian-Taiwanteamuseum,Fujian-TaiwanlovemuseumandFujian-TaiwanoverseasChineseculturalmuseum.Themuseumswerebuiltusingtheoldhousesintheareaandhaveacollectionofabout30,000folkartifactsondisplayforthepublicandtourists.
InFujian-Taiwanofficialsuppliers’museumandFujian-Taiwanhorizontalinscribedboardmuseum,thereareroyalcostumeswornbykingsandofficialsinQinDynasty,ancientweaponsinMinandQinDynasties,theimperialexaminationpapers,officialseals,powercards,memorialarchways,stonetabletsandsoon,whileinthecross-straitsmuseum,lotsofexhibitsleftfromtheperiodofRepublicanChina,theyearsofcross-straitconfrontation,thetimeswhenTaiwanbeingoccupiedbyJapanaredisplayed.StandingatthegateofChengneivillage,youcanseea“movietheaterofXiaCityinthe1970sand1980s”,theFujian-Taiwanoldmoviesmuseum,wheretherearemorethan100collectionsofold-fashionedmovieplayers,around800oldrecordsand6000oldmovieposters.Intheoldmoviesmuseum,theoldfilmslikeLittleHeroesandSpringandAutumnintheSmallTownarepresentedonthespot,creatingadensenostalgicatmosphere.InFujian-Taiwanlovemuseum,therearenotonlyculturalrelicsreflectingtheloveofancientpeoplebutalsosomebizarreancientarticlesforromance.
Theconstructionof“Fujian-TaiwanFolkCulturalTown”receivesthecommonconcernsacrossTaiwanstraitsandviathebridgeof“Chenghuang”,cross-straitcommunicationisbecomingmoreandmorefrequent.HongboRen,EngagedintheMinnanculturalstudiesformanyyearsinFujianProvincialResearchInstituteofCultureandHistory,saidthatpeopleonbothsidessameclanancestors,thecommonsourceofcross-straitcultureandroot.Theitemsondisplayinthemuseumswillbeconducivetoawakeningthememoryofthepeopleonbothsidesandwillnaturallyleadtoacloserculturalbondlinkingthetwosidesofthestraits.Therelicshereareexcellentculturalresourcesanddeservetobewellpreserved.ThenewlybuiltFujian-TaiwanFolkCulturalTownwillnotonlyhelppreservetheculturalrelicsandinheritthevaluablecross-straitfolkculture,butalsowillenhancethecross-straitculturalexchangeanddevelopmentaswell.
