CapsicumrhomboideumalsoknownasCapsicumciliatumhasitsdistributionareainthesouthofMexicototheNorthofPeruandVenezuela.C.ciliatumisoneofthemostcontroversialspeciesbecauseoftheiryellowflowersandthelackofsharpnessandwasremovedasWitheringiaciliatesfromthegenus.AccordingtoresearchbyATHunziker,Barboza&Bianchettiin2001,theplantwasreclassified asC.rhomboideum.

Introduction

Inthepastsomeresearchersclaimedthatthisplantsdoesnotbelongtothecapsicumfamily.TheplantwasrejectedfromthelistofcapsicumsbutrecentlyhasbeenclassifiedasCapsicumrhomboideum.Mostlythevegetativecharacteristicsareverydifferentfromothercapsicums.

Vegetativecharacteristics

Thegrowthisquiteexceptionalcomparedtoothercapsicums.Theplantgrowsveryquicklyinheightwithmanysidebranches.Theleavesareovalshapedandhavesomepubescentcharacteristics（hairy）.Theyareabout6cmlongand5cmwide.Theplantcanreachaheightupto2.5m.

Thefruitsareroundandverysmall.Theymaturefromgreentoredandhaveadiameter5-6mm.Thefruitsaresoftandcontainnoheat.Whendried,theyhaveaveryspecialsweet,malt-liketaste.Theseedsarebrownandhaveadiameterof2mm.Smallerfruitsoftenhavenotmorethen2seedswhilebiggerfruitscancontain5-6seeds
