⏹Masterproductionscheduling(MPS)enablesyoutoplanmaterialsthatgreatlyinfluenceacompany'sprofitsandcriticalresourcesandthereforeneedtobeplannedmorecarefully.Itistypicalforthesesmaterialsthatthemasterproductionscheduleisinitiallydefinedonthelevelofthiscriticalorimportantmaterialbeforethedependentassembliesandpurchasedpartsareplannedandprocured.Thismeansthatchangesmadetothesecriticalpartsarenotcopiedtothedependentparts,thusavoidinganydisruptionarisingduringproductionandprocurementofpurchasedparts.

⏹Youplanthemasterscheduleitems(MPSitems)andthenon-masterscheduleitemsinseparateplanningruns.YouareabletospecifyfinishedproductsorassembliesformasterscheduleitemsprovidedthatyouhaveenteredacorrespondingMRPtypeperplantorperMRPareainthe"MRP1"viewofthematerialmaster.YoumustdefinetheMRPprocedure"M"(masterscheduleitemprocedure)inthisMRPtypeinCustomizingforMRPtypes(Customizingactivity"CheckMRPtypes").

⏹Themasterproductionschedulingrunonlyplansthemasterscheduleitems.MasterproductionschedulingisexecutedwiththesamelogicasmaterialrequirementsplanningbutwithoutplanningmaterialsthatarenotlabelledasMPSitems.Dependentrequirementsarecreatedforthenextlow-levelcode,butplanningisnotexecutedfortheseitemsunlesstheyareMPSitems.

⏹Theresultsofmasterproductionschedulingarenotpassedontodependentpartsuntilthemasterplanforthecriticalpartshasbeenprocessedandfinely-tuned.MasterscheduleitemsarenotplannedalongwiththeMRPruntoensurethatyoucanplanthesematerialsindependently.

⏹Masterproductionschedulingtakesplaceontwolevels:

1.Masterproductionscheduling(MPS)plansthemasterscheduleitemsonthebasisoftherequirementsthatexistfortheseparts(forexample,plannedindependentrequirements).TheMPSrungeneratesplannedordersforthemasterscheduleitemsandthecorrespondingdependentrequirementsontheBOMlevelbelow.CapacitylevelingispossibleontheMPSlevel.

2.MRPplanstheotherassembliesandcomponentsintheBOMstructure.

⏹InthecaseofatotalMPSrun,youcancombinebothstepsbysettingtheindicator"ProcessMRPmaterials"intheinitialscreen.

⏹InteractiveMPSenablesyoutochecktheresultsoftheautomaticplanningrunformasterscheduleitems.Youareabletomakeunlimitedchangestothemasterproductionscheduleandcapacityrequirements,wherenecessary.

⏹IninteractiveMPS,thesysteminitiallygeneratesthecurrentplanningsituationaccordingtothedatainthecurrentstock/requirementslist.Youthenmanuallytriggertheplanningandsimulationfunctions.

⏹Youareabletoviewtheresultsofthechangesinasimulationphase.ThesystemdoesnotcopytheplanningdatatothedatabaseuntilyousavetheinteractiveMPS.

⏹InteractiveMPSisespeciallyusefulwhenadjustingthedatesoftheplannedordersrequiredintheplanningtimefence.YouareabletoperforminteractiveMPSforpartsbothproducedin-houseandprocuredexternally.

⏹MaterialswithMRPtypes,whichareassignedMRPprocedure"D"inCustomizingforMRPtypes,arerequirementsplannedusingMRP(Customizingactivity"CheckMRPtypes").

⏹Withthehelpofthefirmingperiod,youareabletoprotectthemasterproductionscheduleformasterscheduleitemsfrombeingautomaticallychanged.Withinthefirmingperiod,whichisdefinedindividuallyforeachmaterial,orderproposalsarenolongerautomaticallychangedduringtheMRPrun.

⏹Youshoulddefinethefirmingperiodwithreferencetothetotalleadtimeofthematerial.

⏹Intheaboveexample,theorderfinishdateoftheplannedorder,E1,liesonedaybeforetheendofthefirmingperiod.Thesystemthereforetreatsitasfirmedanddoesnotautomaticallyrescheduleit.Themasterproductionscheduleforthecomponentsisthereforestabilized.

⏹Thesystemwilldrawyourattentiontoanypossiblechangestothemasterproductionscheduleintheformofan"exceptionmessage"intheMRPlist.ItisthentheresponsibilityoftheMRPcontrollertoprocessthesechanges.

⏹Therearevariousfirmingproceduresatyourdisposal:

⏹ThefirmingtypeinstructstheMRPrunhowtheorderproposals(especially,plannedordersandpurchaserequisitions)aretobefirmedandinwhichordertheyaretobescheduledwithinthefirmingperiod.

⏹YouspecifythefirmingproceduretobeusedpermaterialusingthetheMRPtype.ThefirmingtypeisdefinedinCustomizingforMRPtype.

⏹Youcanusefirmingformaterialsplannedwithbothmasterproductionschedulingandmaterialrequirementsplanning.Tothisend,thecorrespondingMRPtypesareavailableinthestandardsystem.

⏹Youcandefinethefirmingperiodusingtheplanningtimefence.ThesystemherebyusestheMRPdateasabasefordynamicallycalculatingthefinishdateofthefirmingperiod.

⏹YoucandefinetheplanningtimefenceeitherpermaterialinthematerialmasterrecordorusingtheMRPgroupassignedtothematerialmaster.

⏹Youareabletoreorganizefirmedplannedorderswiththehelpoftherollforwardperiod.The"Rollforwardindicator"inCustomizingfortheMRPtypecontrolswhethertherollforwardmechanismisappliedforamaterialornot.YoucanmaintaintherollforwardperiodforeachMRPgroup.

⏹Allfirmedplannedorderswhoseorderfinishdateliesaftertheendoftherollforwardperiodareeitheradjustedtothecurrentrequirementordeleted.

⏹Youcanalsodefinethefirmingperiodbymanuallyenteringadatelyinginthefuture-thatis,the"manualfirmingdate".

⏹Thesystemcanonlyautomaticallyfirmorderproposalslyingbeforethemanualfirmingdateifthematerialhasnotbeenassignedafirmingtypeorhasfirmingtype"1"or"2".

⏹MaterialsthathavebeendefinedwithanMRPtypewithoutafirmingtypeareprocessedasmaterialswithfirmingtype"1"andwithreferencetothemanualfirmingdate.

⏹Ifyouhavesetamanualfirmingdateandaplanningtimefenceisactive,theninthecaseofthisdatebeinglaterthanthemanualfirmingdate,thefirmingperiodisdeterminedbytheendoftheplanningtimefence.Ifthemanualfirmingdateisthelaterofthetwodates,thenthisdefinesthefirmingperiod.

⏹Yousetandresetthemanualfirmingdateinthecurrentstock/requirementslist,intheplanningresultsorinsingle-term,interactiveplanning.

⏹Youcanapplythisfunctioninmaterialrequirementsplanning,masterproductionschedulingorlong-termplanning.

⏹Ifaplannedorderischangedmanually,thesystemautomaticallysetsthe"firmed"indicatorforthisplannedorder.Thismeansthattheheaderdataoftheplannedorderwillnotbechangedinthenextplanningrun.

⏹Ifacomponentinaplannedorderischangedmanually,thesystemalsosetsthe"firmed"indicatorforthecomponents.Thismeansthatthecomponentsoftheplannedorderwillnotbechangedinthenextplanningrun.

⏹Thefirmingindicatorsfortheplannedorderorthecomponentsoftheplannedordercanbechangedmanually.

⏹Byresettingtheconversionindicatorintheplannedorder,youcanpreventtheplannedorderbeingconvertedintoaproductionorderorpurchaserequisition.

⏹Inmasterproductionschedulingandmaterialrequirementsplanning,twolistsareusedtodisplayinformation.Inthese,theplanningperiodsarerepresentedonaverticaltimeaxis:

forcarryingoutlevelingwithchanges.

-Capacitysituation:

onlyfordisplayingthedata.

⏹Thecapacitysituationorthecapacitylevelingcanbecalledupforallplannedordersforamaterialorjustforasingleplannedorder.

⏹Thefollowingdataareperiodicallyreleasedforaworkcenter:

-Theavailablecapacityoftheworkcenterwithinaperiod,

-Thetotalcapacityloadoftheworkcenterbyallplannedandproductionorderswithinaperiod.

⏹Bychangingtheorderquantityandtheorderfinishdate,youhavetheoptionofreducingtheunderloadsandoverloadsoftherespectiveworkcenter.
