   TheWintontookanearlylead.Buthalfwaythroughtherace,itbegantolosepower.Fordstartedtogain.Andneartheendoftherace,hetookthelead.FordwontheraceanddefeatedtheWinton.HisnameappearedinnewspapersandhebecamewellknownallovertheUnitedStates.Withinweeksoftherace,HenryFordformedanewautomobilecompany.In1903,adoctorinDetroitboughtthefirstcarfromthecompany.

ThatsalewasthebeginningofHenryFord'sdream.Fordsaid:

“Iwillbuildamotorcarforthegreatmassofpeople.Itwillbelargeenoughforthefamily,butsmallenoughforonepersontooperateandcarefor.Itwillbebuiltofthebestmaterials.Itwillbebuiltbythebestmentobeemployed.Anditwillbebuiltwiththesimplestplansthatmodernengineeringcanproduce.Itwillbesolowinpricethatnomanmakinggoodmoneywillbeunabletoownone.”
