TheconceptofInternetofThingsisnotsomuchaforeignconcept,asithasbeentheconceptofa"MadeinChina",hiscoverageofthetimes,hasgonebeyondthescopeofthe1999Ashtonprofessorandthe2005ITUreportreferredto,InternetofThingshasbeenlabeleda"Chinesestyle"label.

TheconceptofInternetofThingsin1999.Internet-based,RFIDtechnologyandEPCstandards,onthebasisofthecomputerInternet,theuseofradiofrequencyidentificationtechnology,wirelessdatacommunicationtechnology,aglobalitemsofinformationtoreal-timesharingofthephysicalInternet"Internetofthings"（referredtoastheInternetofThings）,whichisalsothebasisofthefirstroundoftheChinaInternetofThingsboomsetoffin2003.

Thesensornetworkisbuiltupbasedonsensingtechnologynetwork.ChineseAcademyofSciencesin1999onthestartsensornetworkresearchandhasmadesomeachievementsinscientificresearch,theestablishmentofapplicablesensornetwork.1999,heldintheUnitedStates,mobilecomputingandnetworkingInternationalConference,"Thesensornetworkisadevelopmentopportunityfacinghumanityinthenextcentury.In2003,theUnitedStates,"TechnologyReview"proposedsensornetworktechnologywillbefuturechangestenpeople'slivesfirst.

November17,2005,theWSISheldinTunis（WSIS）,theInternationalTelecommunicationUnionreleasedITUInternetReport2005:

InternetofThings",citingtheconceptofthe"Internetofthings".Thereportpointedoutthattheubiquitous"InternetofThings"communicationeraisapproaching,alltheobjectsintheworld,fromtirestotoothbrushes,fromhousingtothetissueviatheInternet,taketheinitiativetobeexchanged.RadioFrequencyIdentification（RFID）,sensortechnology,nanotechnology,intelligentembeddedtechnologywillbemorewidelyused.

AccordingtothedescriptionoftheITU,theeraofthings,ashort-rangemobiletransceiversembeddedinavarietyofdailynecessities,humanbeingsintheworldofinformationandcommunicationwillreceiveanewcommunicationdimension,fromanytimecommunicationbetweenpeopleoftheplaceofconnectionextendedtothecommunicationconnectionbetweenpersonsandthingsandthingsandthings.TheInternetofThingsconceptoftherise,largelyduetotheInternationalTelecommunicationUnion（ITU）,thetitleofInternetofThings2005annualInternetReport.However,theITUreportthelackofacleardefinitionofThings.

DomesticInternetofThingsisalsothereisnosinglestandarddefinition,buttheInternetofThingsInessence,theInternetofThingsisapolymerapplicationofmoderninformationtechnologytoacertainstageofdevelopmentandtechnologicalupgradingofvarioussensingtechnologymodernnetworktechnologyandartificialintelligenceandautomationtechnologyaggregationandintegrationofapplications,sothatthehumanandmaterialwisdomofdialoguetocreateaworldofwisdom.BecausethedevelopmentoftheInternetofThingstechnology,involvingalmostallaspectsofIT,innovativeapplicationanddevelopmentofapolymer,systematic,andthereforebecalledrevolutionaryinnovationofinformationindustry.SummedupthenatureoftheInternetofThingsismainlyreflectedinthreeaspects:
