Fortwoyears,Singhworkedtirelessly,buildingjohads(rainwaterstoragetanksbuiltwithstone,dirt,orwhatevermaterialsareavailable)andcheckingdamsthatdidn'tresultinmuchsuccess.Localelderslaughedathim,buthecontinuedworkingwithenthusiasm.Andhisenthusiasmprovedinfectious-seeinghewassincereinwantingtohelpbringwaterbacktotheirlands,thelocalssoonbegantogivemoneyandoffersuggestionsonappropriatelocationstobuildmoredamsandjohads.

Finallyhisstrategyworked.Itwasn'tlongbeforetheArvariRivercamebacktolife,alongwithfourotherrivers.Peoplewhohadabandonedthedistrictsslowlybegantomovebackhome,returningtotheirtraditionalwayoflife.
