这是20世纪二三十年代美国禁酒时期加州的电影明星们去墨西哥提华纳市的恺撒餐馆饮酒开心时，由餐馆老板恺撒·卡尔迪尼怨中拼凑而成的。
提华纳市紧靠美国加州边界，当时居住在加州南部的各种人士包括好莱坞的电影明星们经常在周末时开车越过边境线去墨西哥聚会饮酒，卡尔迪尼的餐馆是这些人经常去的餐馆之一。
1924年7月4日（美国国庆节）的周末是餐馆老板卡尔迪尼永远难忘的一个周末。
当时人们成群结队地从加州进入墨西哥，当地的餐馆个个爆满。
到晚上时，不少餐馆的食物储存都告急了。
据说，当这些明星们进入卡尔迪尼的餐馆时已是后半夜了，餐馆里没剩多少吃的东西了，而且街上的其他店铺都已关门。
卡尔迪尼进入食品储藏室，里面只剩下一些莴苣、面包、鸡蛋、干酪和橄榄油等食物。
怎么办？
卡尔迪尼知道这些明星是来开心的，于是他让餐馆的侍者在影星们的餐桌上眼花缭乱地表演了怎么将这些东西配制在一起，用手撕开的莴苣叶青翠可爱，上面的面包块用橄榄油炒得金黄诱人，上面撒的干酪丝用擦菜板切得均匀一致。
这道菜最后用加有柠檬汁和生鸡蛋汁的调料在一个大木碗中拌成。
令人难以置信的是，这不仅达到了应付影星们的目的，而且这道菜美味无比。
于是，恺撒色拉一炮打响，并迅速名传四方。
后来，加州的很多人专门开车到墨西哥提华纳市，为的就是尝一尝恺撒色拉。
为了靠近自己的顾客，1948年时卡尔迪尼将自己的餐馆移到了洛衫矶，这时有不少人带着瓶子到他的餐馆吃饭。
吃过饭后他们让卡尔迪尼给他们的瓶中装入色拉调料带走。
后来，这家餐馆决定将其色拉调料作为一种产品装瓶专卖，一种新的行业也由此诞生。
几年后，位于法国巴黎的国际美食协会称恺撒色拉是美洲大陆50年来所烹饪出的最好的一道菜。
恺撒色拉是今天最常见的色拉之一，绝大多数美国餐馆的菜单上都列有这种色拉，许多欧洲的餐馆好有。
恺撒色拉调料可在几乎所有的西方超级市场上买到。

在斯拉夫国家，middlename是父名之意。
