ABSTRACT
Inalifetime,familyisthefirstschool,inwhichparentsarethefirstteachersforthechildren.Childrenarethehopesofanation,andfamilyeducationistheelementaryeducationforchildren.Inasense,talentcompetitionisthecompetitionoftheabilityoffamilyeducation.Sofamilyeducationisveryimportant.Inviewofthis,Americagivesmoreattentiontofamilyeducation.Alongwiththeacceleratingprocessofthedevelopment,thedisadvantageoftheChinesetraditionfamilyeducationgraduallyreveals.Sofamilyeducationreformisurgentlyneeded.Therearegreatdifferencesintheconceptsofeducation,aimofeducation,methodsofeducationandcontentsofeducationbetweenAmericanfamilyeducationandChinesefamilyeducation.Thisthesiswillcompletethecomparativestudyfromtheimportance,thedefinition,thedifferencesandthereasonsoffamilyeducationbetweenAmericaandChina.Atthesametime,theauthorhopesthisthesiscanprovidesomehelpfulsuggestionsforfamilyeducationinordertomakechildrengrowmorehealthilyandroundly.

Whatisfamilyeducationabout?
Mostpeopleincludingsomeparentsmaysaythatfamilyeducationsimplymeansraisingandeducating.However,itisneverthecase.Familyeducationismorethanraisingandeducating.
AGeneralIntroductionofChenHeqin’sThoughtsonPreschoolEducationdefinesfamilyeducationas“Familyeducationisasocietyusetoeducatenewgenerationwithaimsandsystems”(ChenHeqin,2006).Itcanbeprovedthatasintheperiodofearlychildhood,familyeducationprocessesarecriticalforelementary-school-agechildren’slearninganddevelopment.
Accordingtothetraditionalconceptfamilyeducationisparentseducatetheirchildren.Yet,thedefinitionoffamilyeducationshouldbeextended.Familyeducationisnotonlytheactionoffamilybutalsoconcernsthewholesociety.Familyeducationisnotonlythewaythatparentsoreldergenerationeducatethechildorteenageinfamily,butallthefamilymemberseducateeachother.Familyeducationisnotonlytheeducationofthepre-schooleducation,butalsoalllifeeducation.

2.1Theconceptoffamilyeducationisdifferent
ThedifferenteducationconceptsbetweenAmericaandChinaleadchildrentoreceivedifferenteducation.InChina,manyparentsonlycareaboutwhetherthechildrenhaveapromisingfuture,agoodjob,agoodlifeornot.Basedontheseexpectations,manyparentsfeelthattheirresponsibilityfortheirchildrenistocreateasgoodconditionsaspossibleastheycansothatthechildrenwillnotworryaboutanythinginthefuture.Therefore,intheprocessofchildren’sgrowth,themostimportantthingthatparentscareaboutistodeveloptheirchildren’sintellect,exceptforcaringchildren’sdailylife.Contrastively,Americanparentsgenerallybelievethatthegrowthofchildrenmustrelyontheirownstrengthandexperiences.Basedonthisconcept,mostAmericanparentsemphasizemoretotraintheirchildren’sabilityofindependenceoncetheyarebornbecausetheythinkthatchildrenshouldformaself-supportingwillandthecapacitytoliveindependentlysincetheirchildhood.
2.2Theaimoffamilyeducationisdifferent
Theaimoffamilyeducationistofosterthechildrentogrowinsomedirectionbyfamilyeducation.
Thereisanessentialdifferencebetweentwocountry’saimoffamilyeducation.TomostChineseparents,theaimisexpectingtheirchildrentobea“dragon”,whichis“wangzichenglong”inChinese.ButAmericanparentstakehopingthechildtobeamanwiththeabilitywhichis“wangzichengren”inChineseastheiraim.ForChineseparents,theiraimistodoanythingtosupporttheirchildrentogethighmarks.Whatformsapparentcontrasttoitis,Americaparentsgivetheirchildrenmoretrainingaboutimprovingabilities.Theytrytotraintheirchildrentohavetheabilityofadaptingtoenvironmentalvarietyandtheabilityoflivingindependently.
2.3Themethodsaredifferent
Thedifferencesofconceptsandaimcausethechildrentobetaughtbydifferentwaysandmethods.InChinesefamily,affectedbyChinesetraditionalculture,parentseducatechildrenby‘control’and‘seal’type.Chineseparentsprepareallthingsfortheirchildrenindailylife.InChinesefamily,childrendon’thavetodoanyhousework.Chineseparentsprotectthechildrentoexcessinsocialactivities.Chineseparentshavearatherstrictattitudetowardchildren’sstudy.SoChinesechildrenspendmoretimein
