NormanBethunewasborninbecameadoctorin1916andwenttoSpainin1936totreatthewoundedsoldiersduringthewarsoonrealisedthatmanypeopleweredyingbecausetheydidnotgettohospitalquicklyBethunedevelopednewwaysoftakingcareoftheinventedspecialmedicaltoolstouseoutsidehospitalsandchosetothefightingareassothatdoctorscouldtreatthewoundedmoreinventionssavedmanylives.

In1938,DrBethunecametoChinaandhelpedtreatthewoundedduringtheAntiJapanesethattime,therewerefewdoctors,sohehadtoworkveryhardonhisexperienceoftreatingpeopleinSpainwasUsefulindevelopedtrainingcoursesforlocaldoctorsandnurses,andwrotebookssothattheycouldlearnabouthowhetreatedthesick.

DrBethuneoftenworkedveryhardwithoutrestingortakingcareofhimself;Once,heevenworkedforsixty-ninehourswithoutstoppingandmanagedtosaveoverahundreddayin1939,hecuthisfingerduringanoperation,buthecontinuedhisworkwithouttreatingtheend,hediedofhiswound.
