Anotherlessonlearnedwastheneedformorelifeboats.TheTitanicremainedafloat(漂浮)foralmostthreehoursandmostofthepassengerscouldhavebeensavedwithenoughlifeboats.

1,500passengersandworkersdiedinthe28degreewatersoftheAtlantic.Outofthetragedy,thesinkingdidproducesomeimportantmaritimereforms.ThewintertravelrouteswerechangedtothesouthandtheCoastGuardbegantokeepaneyeonthelocationofallicebergs.Thenewrulesforlifeboatswereobvioustoall.Theremustbeenoughlifeboatsforeverybodyonboard.
