“Awomanmusthavemoneyandaroomofherownifsheistowritefiction”.EightyyearsagoVirginiaWoolfpublishedthesewordsinanessaythatwastobecomeoneoftheseminalfeministtextsofourage.“ARoomofOne’sOwn”hasshapedthewayinwhichcreativeachievementbymenandwomenisviewed,andprovidedapointofreferenceforgenerationsoffemalewriters.Woolfusesthe‘room’asasymbolforprivacy,leisuretime,andfinancialindependence,allofwhichhavebeenhistoricallylackingforwomen.Womentodayarestillstrugglingtofindthementalandphysicalspacefortheircreativityandadvocatingforequalrightswithmeninsociety.
