ThepurposeofthisexerciseistocoverthebasicfunctionalityoftheMechanicalToolbar(MTB)inthecontextofperforminganactualanalysis.Detailsofeachcommand,alongwithanexplanationofwhyyouareusingthecommand,areprovidedpriortoeachstep.

ThiswillbeasimpleproblemthatwillbeperformedentirelywithintheMTBtogivethestudentaquickoverviewoftheMTBfunctionality.Thisexercisewillusetheveryminimumofinputrequiredtoprogressthroughthestepsandobtainresults.Themodelwillemploythenodefeature/repairoptionduringimportofasolid3Dpart,MTBmaterials,Smartsizemeshing,simpleareaconstraints,andareaforceloading.

Theanalysiswillbeperformedona3-Dsolidmodelofanautomobilefrontwheelaxle.Themodelhasalreadybeensufficientlydefeaturedtofacilitatebuildingthefiniteelementmodel.YouwillusetheMTBtodeterminemaximumstressanddeflectionandiftheaxlecanwithstandthegivenloadswithoutyielding.

Createafolderonyourcomputerforthisjobandcopytheparasolidfileaxle.xmt_txttothisfolderfromtheInputFilesfolderontheCD.

Ifyoudonothaveaparasolidtranslator,copythefileaxle.dbinstead.Whenyoureachsection3.2(ImportModel),selectANSYS(*db*)fortypeoffileandimporttheaxle.dbfile.
